Ho hum, everything causes cancer apparently. I'll probably just continue to enjoy life while eating red meat, fish and drinking a little in excess occasionally and stop worrying about what the future holds.

Most things in excess will give you problems. The trick is to not consume anything in excess. Reducing the risk of illness doesn't mean just eating lettuce and drinking water for the rest of your life.

Agreed but most people I know wouldn't think a pint a day on average is anywhere near excess.

That's true. It is quite handy for carb loading, too. Nice source of energy for training. evil

I am convinced that the endless flow of constantly updated and conflicting health/environment news like this is nothing more than manufactured crap which exists solely to provide:

Work for 'scientists'.
Work for 'study groups'.
Money for the people who run them.
A steady stream of alarmist bullst for the news media to publish.
Money for the people who run the media.

Not long ago a glass of red per day was good for the heart. Today it'll give you cancer instead. Tomorrow it'll be responsible for global warming.

Well I say fk 'em.
fk 'the latest research' and fk the media. fk 'em all.

Cancer Research UK are a marvelous organisation and they endorse the study/research. I think this kind of education is fantastic and it's free to everyone. Without it everyone would still be smoking 60 a day, there would be no improvements in car emissions over the last 50 years, diet would still be fat laden and of course life expectancy would still be around 50 years.

A little bit of exaggeration there, no? laugh

BTW, check the labels on your food. If you're not already very conscious about that sort of thing you'll be amazed (and probably horrified) by just how much fat is in food you think shouldn't have much. Despite all the education a lot of people have fattier diets than ever before and in some cases won't even know it.

I always check the ingredients of everything I buy, takes only a few extra minutes. You're right though, lots of junk masquerading as 'good' food. A very good friend of mine is a qualified nutritionist, so I get great advice from her which is all explained as to the reasons to consume certain foods smile

Well, male life expectancy wasn't much more than 50 in the early part of the 20th Century, so change 50 years ago to 80 years ago but it's still shows that scientific research and the take up of theresultant recommendations has improved life expectency hugely for those who are bothered to listen.

What would be good for us, is being "hunter gatherers" with stone age tools, but with 21st century health care to patch us up after accidents.

Plenty of exercise. Catching animals is hard work so not too much fatty meat, no refined sugar, and not much alcohol.

Failing that. Might as well just do what we want and stop worrying, without being daft about it obviously.

So, the following respected organisations and institutions contributed and agreed with the message of the article:

Cancer Research UK
Cancer Partners UK
UK Alcohol Health Alliance
Royal College of Physicians
British Medical Journal
The Department of Health
The European Prospective Investigation into Cancer
World Health Organization
German Institute of Human Nutrition

but instead I'm supposed to take a tip from an anonymous internet user called Soovy? rofl

You go and have your Chicken Tikka Masala (or whatever other artificial pretend Indian food you have) and your 10 pints tonight but I think I'll give it a miss. God, I really am rofl

I'm surprised you'd want to come across like that.

You appear to have forgotten what life is about from your posts.

Life is not about who lives the longest before catching/developing something terminal.

No there's not point doing terminally stupid things. (Smoking 60 a day, and washing it down with 20 pints) But outside of the stupid. Life is for getting on with and enjoying. Not spending all your time worrying about how to make the body last 5 years longer.

You are going to die no matter what. I personally will not spend my time worrying about when that will be.

I have a great life, sure nothing is guaranteed. However, with some very easychanges one can make life longer and more pleasant. What makes me laugh is the attitude that says -'Well, I don't want to live until I'm in my 80s because I'll be incontinent bla, bla, bla'. Well, instead of being incontinent at 80, these people are opening themselves to these unfortunate problems much earlier. The cynicism of certain people just shows they can't accept/admit that someone has a great idea that will benefit others who make the effort.

So, no worries here about a good life, I'm just trying to make mine that much more pleasant by listening to the advice of others who have much more knowledge (and are recognised as so) than me. I'm not one of those cynical to trash anything that comes from a larger organisation or insitution no matter how 'fashionable' that seems to be smile

So great you feel the need to laugh out loud (presumably on your own), at someone else's quite valid point of view.

Yeah. Sounds wild and exciting.

You're not exactly building your case there. You're still coming across as mad loner cackling person, desperate to prolong their life a tiny bit at the expense of a lot of quality.
