.. A quick question. The tips on the exhausts on my LS460 are heavily coated in carbon - in fact the carbon seems to be almost 'welded on'. How do I clean them to get that all new shiny look back?

Sure it's carbon, and not road tar?
If so, then Autosol/Peek is easily picked up locally in £ shops or Halfords, but possibly something better is http://www.thepolishingcompany.com/briliant.html

... umm not sure. It feels baked on - like some deposits you get on a stainless steel cooker. It could be tar I suppose. I have some acetone that I will try. If it is tar, this should strip it easily. Otherwise off to Halfords in the morning.

Aha, I'm after a similar answer, do they look like mine?

(Piss poor cropped photo, sorry)

Is there anything you'd normally have around the house that might do the job?

... indeed they do. In fact only a few minutes ago I was having a bash as polishing them with autosol. Though the cloth goes filthy black, the exhaust tips are no cleaner at all.

Tardis will remove any road tar deposits, Bilt Hamber autoclay may also remove some debris too. Not sure if they are designed to be shiny.

I use Autosol with some wire wool, takes a good ten minutes of polishing with the wire wool to get the marks off but it's worth it.
