I have to fly out of Luton next Thursday and need to park a car (non-cherished) at the airport for a week - the quotes I've seen on the airport parking site have been a bit scary (£100 > £300).

Are there any reputable firms in the area that park the car away from the site and bus you in or any good alternatives to the airport parking provided by the airport?

As a northern chap who has never flown from Luton I'm not very familiar with things there, I've used park and ride style companies in Manchester and booked hotels with parking thrown in at Heathrow but given the times of the flights I don't really need a room that I'll only be in for a few hours.

As ever the collective input of the PH experts would be most appreciated.

WTF?

You can rent a space on my lawn for £100 and I'll even drive you to the airport!

On a more practical note you can park at Luton Airport Parkway station for £6.80 per day and pay about £1.50 to get the shuttle bus to the airport. I'm surprised the quotes you're seeing are so high - there's plenty of empty space near the airport, and airparks seem to have a steady stream of buses heading off in various directions. I wouldn't park at Luton central station as it's not in the nicest of places (ie the middle of Luton) but the Parkway station is clean & bright and away from any pubs etc.

A swift google suggests that Airparks want about £60 for a week including airport transfers although they will park your car for you. Are you travelling at peak times to get such bad prices?

We've used www.centralcarstorage.co.uk a few times and always been happy with their quick and friendly service.

Just booked 9 days in there in May and it's costing us £45

Some good info there, cheers smile

It was hard to tell what was the official page for parking and what were external companies so perhaps I've got a bit lost but the times I fly in and out are relatively peak so that could be a factor - I prefer the sort of prices you are suggesting though so thanks for the pointers.

Will do some more digging and look at the ones suggested, thanks again.

I don't think there is official parking as such - just a bunch of companies who want your money. Google the company offering the best price to check for horror stories and if it's OK then pay them.

Or if flying out for more than a few days, you can buy a weekly ticket for the car park at Luton Airport Parkway station for £30.

Are you looking at the Short Term car park? I've just booked a week in May in the Medium Term car park for £47 (five minute courtesy bus to terminal).

It was quite easy.

Some other cheaper Airparks options come up on that link but the Medium term is coming in at £82.99 for 7 days with the discount.

Short-term is £149.99 with the £130 discount knocked off. I suspect the site I looked at originally just quoted the full prices.

I used Central two weeks ago. They only had one shuttle operating and we along with many others were made to wait while they drove the previous parkers to the terminal and came back for us. It was raining and to make sure we were not bumped off the next shuttle we had to qeue in the wet for 20 minutes - nice. We then watched their parking operatives race off in punters cars, really made me glad these chumps were being let loose on my car. To top it off we had the most officious shuttle driver I've ever incurred. Next time I will pay the extra and park in a self park outfit.

We've never had anything but good service from them.

Last Sept was the first time we travelled with our baby and they were helpful in putting the luggage in the bus while I sorted out the baby seat

I guess that just means service levels are variable. I for one will use a different company.

Bit late for the OP but I've found the cheapest parking to be at the railway station by the airport. Luton Parkway or something?

Also a bit late for the OP, but on airport mid term is the way to go. I just paid £55 for 7 days. Go to monarch airlines for discount car parking (you dont need to be flying with them).

Hello again, I have returned from the car park smile

I ended up in the Long-Term as the discounted Medium-Term spaces were no longer available by the time I booked, in hindsight I should have asked earlier than I did.

Having said this long-term was fine in the end, traffic into the airport on departure was pretty busy and both us and then the shuttle bus got stuck for a bit but we got there in plenty of time and made the flight just fine.

Thanks for your help, great info provided as usual.
