Many years ago I moved to the smoke as a bright eyed petrol headed 20 something year old
I had an MX5 and was worried it would get nicked
I work in the public sector and at the time my poorly paid job came with a cockroach infested bedsit/dive as a perk of my crappy working conditions
My job started on a Monday AM
I arrived at 10PM on Sunday and explained to "security" that I was new when I collected my keys and would be issued with a parking permit first thing on Monday as arranged previously
After woofing my Frosties on Monday I skipped to work across the car park at 0730AM to see my P&J had been clamped overnight
I phoned security to explain my dilemma when they opened at 9AM
They played hardball
I dodnt have a permit - durrr obviously - so they clamped me
I explained the scenario that Id be granted permission for a permit but having arrived at 10PM on a Sunday the permit office was shut even though the clamp dept was open
They insisted I pay to have it removed
At this point I congratulated them for securing my car in crime infested London thus taking a weight off my mind for the godforsaken time I had to actually reside in that s
tholeUnfortunately for me they then decided to remove it LOL
Note this was on private property and I was at no risk of being towed
Although the tabloid headlines would have been pretty good PR for the establishment in question

They're like vultures, devoid of any words other than "just doing my job, mate". There's a YouTube video showing a guy from up north who goes around picking clamp locks, then he clamps the clamper's yard gate with them They played hardball

These awful contraptions should be destroyed. All the same, I thought there was some case law that said it could be reasonably expected that the owner of a clamped car would try to get the clamp off and may damage it in the process but would not be at fault?
Surely thats too much of a common sense approach for our courts to take.

How you're going to manage to send a clamp without postage is beyond me though - it won't fit in a postbox
Someone did send a company a few bricks by putting FREEPOST FU2 in the 2nd line of the address or something. Not sure if it will work for something as large as a clamp.How you're going to manage to send a clamp without postage is beyond me though - it won't fit in a postbox

Fighting clampers, the fun of it.
Two of my friends have been clamped before, both just let down the tyres and removed the clamp and put the spare on.
Both times in pitch black place with tiny signs high up so you could not see it.
The first one we let the tyre down found that they had threaded it though the suspension arms so we put spare on and just drove off with clamp still attached to the car with me following, the noise was awful but the sparks where so cool looking
and remove the clamp the next day.
The next I was not there but my two friends did the same thing but the clamp was not threaded through suspension, but two clampers turn up and started to make threats about them removing clamp.
They blocked the exit to the car park but unluckly for them my friend is rather tough and strong, they said they called the police and my friend said move the car or clamp goes throw there windscreen and they will get a beating too and they were not small ethier, they soon gave in and moved.

Just cut the padlock off and take it with you. Then leave the clamp behind perfectly intact. I'd love them to try and prove you have stolen their lock. Who would open a court case for a £5 lock? Can't see it happening.
As above just carry the largest cutter you can find and keep it in the boot.

Yeah I heard that too. If you can remove the clamp without damaging it then you can't be done for criminal damage or theft. Nor can you be done for perverting the course of justice because its a civil matter between two private parties (a private party includes the DVLA company).Some have argued that it goes against human rights: restricting someone's right to travel AND one person persecuting another without trial (which supposedly can only be done by the state).
There was a thread years ago on vwvortex about a guy with an Audi S4 that forgot to put his parking permit out one day and his car got clamped outside his house. Thing was he was planning on taking it off the road to rebuild the engine the week after anyway, or something like that, so just jacked it up, put it on some wheel dollies and pushed it into his garage. Clamper comes round looking confused so he goes out and asks if he can help him and gets an explanation of how its illegal to remove a clamp and so on, so he just opened the garage and said "theres your clamp you can take it if you want".
I seem to remember it went on for quite a while with lots of updates, police got involved and the clampers started clamping everyone in the neighbourhood for the most minor things, seems to have dissapeared now but was a good read.
