Broken Canon IXUS - worth repairing?

I have a six month old Canon IXUS 200 series, I've dropped it and the lens mech no longer operates, is it worth getting it looked at or just bin it??

I did the same thing, just bin it. For a small amount you can take out 3 yr insurance which covers for damaging or losing the camera, about 15quid I think.

Same happened to me on an Ixus. Lens would not retract and I was pretty miffed as it wqas a very nice little camera. I sold it as damaged on Ebay IIRC.

Go get another new shiny one

May be worth having a look at your household insurance policy first? I broke a camera on holiday and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was covered.

You can find the lens assembly on Ebay for not a lot.

Picked up a Powershot A640 a few weeks ago with a focus problem and found the whole assembly on Ebay for £20. Didn't bother repairing it though as the camera has since fixed itself with a bit of use.

Getting the cameras apart isn't that difficult either (and hugely satisfying). Replaced the screen on a Ixus last year (screen cost £10 or so), and it was actually quite straight forward to do.

Of course, that's only if you are interested in pulling your camera apart.

To be honest I anhilate compacts so a new buy is best buy, can't be bothered with the time or grief implications but really appreciate the input!
