Not being able to afford to visit the USA this year, we ended up with a Thomas Cook holiday to Turkey (something is better than nothing as they say)

Just looked at reviews of the airline and all I can say is........oh dear!!! I'm hoping someone can reassure me.

Used them for a trip to Canada and was well impressed; leather seats and good seat pitch on a 757. Service was as good as any and cabin staff very attentive. HTH

We've used TC for flights to Turkey (Dalaman) on several occasions. Also to one or two other European destinations. I guess you get what you pay for, and as long as it's a short flight we can put up with their service.

Given the choice we'd use BA any day.

Crap for leg room. Pretty no frills. Other than that they are OK, and get you there! I flew the same route with them last year, it's just about tolearable!

Out of interest, what is it about the BA service that you find much better than Thomas Cooks?

I think the economy leg room on short haul is less but on long haul Thomas Cook have more. They certainly do more drinks services etc on the same length of flight than BA do.

They can't compare with BA's club and traveller plus services but in economy I think they actually have a better product.

Thomas Cook were used for a recent trip to Lanzarote. I couldn't believe how cramped the legroom was and I'm 5'6" tall! I had a rucksack which would barely squeeze between the seat and the seeat back in front. only flight I've been on where nobody put their seat back or would dare!

That said, punctuality was very good, the flight both ways was 3.5 hours, down from the usual 4. Trolleys coming from both ends were a pain as you couldn't get to the toilets but I suspect that may be a common problem.

Oh yes, they charge extra extra expensive for stuff like coffee and now don't provide in flight entertainment but rather rent you a DVD player at £7.50 EACH. That's right, we didn't.

I just think my overall experience shows that BA is a better quality airline, although this is, of course, subjective. Maybe I've been flying BA too long!

We've flown to Vancouver at least once a year since 1996 and almost always book through Canadian Affair, it saves up to £400 each over scheduled airlines that we'd rather spend out there.

The last time we went was in August 2010, with Thomas Cook, and made us think 'never again', next time we'll pay extra for scheduled, it'll be worth it for the more pleasant start to the trip. The flight was packed, legroom felt worse than ever, worst in-flight meal I can remember, all drinks had to be paid for, every ounce of overweight baggage charged for at £10 a kilo, unfriendly staff.

A couple of weeks ago it was time to sort this year's trip and being complete cheapskates with no backbone, we've forgotten our principles and saved £700 v BA by booking TC again paperbag

We still reserve the right to whinge constantly about the crap flight though laugh

It's the leg room that's bothering me. I'm pretty tall and four and a quarter hours trussed up like a Turkey isn't something I'm looking forward too.

Pay for extra leg room seats? We did that on Thomsons and were fine, and they'll have some.

Same for me this year, can't afford to go to the States in the summer so just booked flights to Dalaman to stay in my old mans place in Fethiye for a few weeks.
I booked Thomas Cook and paid for the extra legroom seats. Have had these before on a flight to Cyprus and they were fine (im 6ft 3). In flight meals.. dont bother. Eat before you fly. Drinks, expensive but same as easyjet etc.. Entertainment = ipod preloaded with music and movies!

Flew back with Thomas Cook on my way back from Cyprus (so not too dissimilar). Sorry to disappoint but it was awful and mainly because of the leg room.

I'm 6' 2" and it was a tight flight. I had an aisle seat so I had the luxury of putting on leg in to the aisle but it kept getting bashed my the trolley, despite me trying to move my leg back in.

As soon as the person put their seat back (usually the instant the seatbelt sign goes off) there was even more pressure on my knees.

I swore I would never fly Thomas Cook again.

I've flew to turkey a few times but I can't remember what airline it was with. Just remember that the flight is only a small part of your holiday and once you're there enjoy it!

Jealous! I loved Fethiye, it seems to have become a hot-spot now though? The hotel where we stayed many times have nearly tripled their prices. Lovely place though.

Not sure to be honest! Haven't been since 2005. From what i remember Fethiye was popular with the more knowledgeable tourists, great restaurants, bar's and the harbour is lovely. The nearby town of Hisaronou (spelling?) was the usual 'brits abroad' tourist trap town. I think we will do the same as last time, spending most days at Olu Deniz beach and nights in Fethiye.

I seem to remember the heat being unbearable some days! Routine was: Put suncream on followed by 20 mins in the sun > sweat like a pig > 10 mins in the water cooling down then repeat process!

On these tightly packed flights why don't the airlines fix the seatbacks so that inconsiderate clots can't crank theirs back?

I am told that Olu Deniz is just as bad as Hisaronou now. It is a beautiful place though but as you said the head can be unbearable sometimes. Make sure you do the quad biking though (if you haven't already) - it's good fun.

I'm pretty sure Ryanair and Easyjet do. Makes sense really.

If it bothers you this much, you can log into the Thomas COok airlines site and buy extra legroom seats.

We done this last year going to Turkey. Was great having the extra space.
