They are completely awful to drive. The steering column is not torsionally strong so there is about 30 degrees of play in it, the gear lever is flexible, the engines don't make any power, the brakes don't work. When you do get out of the steering dead zone, the steering is so heavy that it requires the biceps of Arnold Schwarzenegger to steer and park.

Admittedly I did drive a non split screen model made in Brazil, but I fail to see how it could be much different. Oh and they have NO crash protection. If you have a crash you rlikely to get impaled on a steering column.

Without a doubt the worst vehicle of any type I've ever driven or ridden. And that is saying something.

Anyone who pays that much money for one of those is clearly a moron.

Bit of a redundant statement isn't it.

People don't exactly buy them in the belief that they're the ultimate driving machine.

splittys are even worse to drive than bays, if that makes you feel any better

I had a bay window van as my first car, gear change was like stirring porridge - from 15 feet away - with a spoon using 4 or five UJs from a 1/4" socket set

Yikes, think that's the most expensive one I've seen. There was a beautiful grey one sold for £65,000 last year.

while i "get" the scene around these old busses
and they do have a certain something character wise
the values they make are mental.

its nice to see them around now and again like a lot of
classic metal but i would never want to buy one.

I remember pulling in to a petrol station in Scotland and seeing that complete with roof mounted goggle wearing hippies - freaked me out somewhat, especially as I was listening to the Grateful Dead at ear-bleeding volume. Made me question the chocolate brownie I bought at the previous services.
