Clutch gone last night - Master or slave cylinder?

The clutch went on the MGF last night, it still just about works, but the majority of the travel is just slack as though there is loads of air in the system and its not disengaging fully. The clutch fluid level is still fine and whilst getting my dad to work the clutch pedal i cannot see any fluid leaking from either the master or slave cylinder. What is likely to be the cause as we have to get this sorted this week as we have a track day booked up for next weekend

Have you tried to bleed it?

I have an Elise with the same engine/gearbox and if it's the slave cylinder, it'll be an easy swap presuming an MGF has some sort of removeable undertray at the rear for access.

I don't know what access is like for the master cylinder but on mine there's loads of room so no hassle there.

Shouldn't be an hard or expensive repair if it actually is a hydraulic problem.

Master cylinder. The slave would be showing fluid on top of the gearbox if it's gone, but there are two seals in the master and it won't necessarily leak.

Yes access for both is relatively simple so either is not an issue. I will do some more fault finding tomorrow

Hi, it's worth checking that the release arm is not partialy seized in the bell housing, as it's something we have come across with these
