We had a letter come through from a main dealer for one of our cars. They are offering between 25% and 30% off new models for current owners only. Sounds like a very good deal. I guess they are feeling a little desperate to shift stock. Yet clearly they don't want to send out the wrong signals to the public, so they keep it quiet via letter rather than blatantly advertising it everywhere.
It made me wonder how many other dealers are doing this? Anyone else been offered crazy deals on the quiet by letter? Makes haggling for 5% or 10% seem pathetic! Sign of the times I guess.

As has been said, it's not as good a deal as you'd expect. They've got you exactly the way they wanted to, methinks 
Since you're a current owner, they've got an excellent and unquestionable reason to take your car as PX, and since they're offering you such a good deal you're unlikely to question the price they offer you for it. Then it reappears on the forecourt marked up, uh, quite considerably, and once this difference has been taken off you still only have the same sort of discount you would've got by walking in and haggling well.
That's what the cynic in me says, anyway
it seems more like a clever way to keep the current customer base feeling happy and valued while not actually losing any money doing so.

So what's stopping him selling his car privately or going to a second-hand dealer and selling for cash and then buying with 30% off?More likely the cars in question are 20% too dear in the first place so what they're really doing is offering a 5-10% discount off of what the new cars should be for sale at.
Targeting existing owners makes sense as they're most willing to believe that their car is worth the premium price and that the discount is real.

.......If they are sending the letter out to random owners, the numbers of letters being sent out would more than likely be in the 1000's.
I wasn't posting this up to generate an interesting story. I was simply enquiring if anyone else has received similar letters in the post for huge discounts from main dealers. FWIW, it's a more premium brand than Ford etc.
No part exchange was offered. It was simple black and white print out of the RRP and the offered price: 25% off the £100k models, 30% off the £30k models. With all the other models in between at the same discounts of around 30% or so.
I just didn't realize this level of discount would be entertained. I thought 10% would be good!

The 1.6 MPI isn't that great of an engine (102ps I believe). However 25% off list price is not bad, £10,995 for the hatch and £11,995 for the estate, before you add on any extras which will be available. Also Skoda were fitting 17" alloys and sport suspension for nothing. If only you could get the TSI engine instead, as it is cheaper to run and much better overall imo. Either the dealer has registered some vehicles to hit targets (and back end bonuses) and wants to shift the stock, or they're being naughty and using fleet terms. If it's the latter then they could be in for slapped wrists if they get caught!
There are some silly fleet discounts out there, I know that for the right customer/deal you can get over 20% off BMW 3 series. Ford/Vauxhall/Citroen do silly deals as well!

In the past, I have done some mystery shopping pretending to buy cars. Basic idea is I try to get the best price I can, at various, pre-assigned dealerships on certain cars.
Saab and Vauxhall have both offered me 1/3 off list price before now on most models. This was about a year ago
