Pics look good, thanks for sharing

Am I right in thinking that the standard of driving at these events is "questionable" at times?

I was at japfest last year and I watched at least 3 cars have hard encounters with the wall and many more come off the track...

Looks to be some serious machinery out on track though !

That evo (the red one).. was just so so so quick. It was lapping cars after 2 laps? However, it only seemed go on out for 2/3 laps, them go back in, but it was out every session which was odd.

It also sounded like it had a straight cut box to me.

It seemed better this year, a few 3 cars wide into corners, but gone are the days of a shagged vectra and a corsa attempting to outbrake a wrx into a corner. There were not tooo many crashes on Quarry, though the drift cars were very very close at one point to crashing.

Quite a few red flags thou.

That Sooby in your second picture came past me up Avon Rise at such a rate that I didn't need to back off a fraction! And round Quarry he was practically sideways.

Unlike the last Performance Car Action Day I did, I didn't see any examples of bad driving this time. I was passed by two minis and a hot hatch, three abreast but I'd just got 5th instead of 3rd so what can you expect.

ETA - there's a thread here as well:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Combe - Spring Perforamace Car Action Day

Further ETA - I have heard that Japfest is the worst behaviour-wise. I shall be there but will leave the track car at home!

Driving std this year was better than past years. I want ed to go out for 4 sessions but after the second session my front right tyre was destroyed so didnt bother hunting for more sessions. Great day though and the weather was fantastic, my neck is still sore LOL

The red Evo was giving passenger rides all day @£20 for 2 laps, something to do with the Japanese tsunami appeal or something, although driving standards were better this year there was still a lot of idiots on track who took no notice of the driver briefing telling you where not to overtake!

Yea like a green golf driver who over took the car i was in as we entered Tower , in the no overtaking zone .........
Then i find out that the spaz was a combe saloon car racing driver .......which obviously means the track action rules don't apply to him ........F***ing idiot ........

(The dogs were overtaking each other without indicating and one of them wasn't wearing a helmet).

The drifting sessions were pretty short, I think this was the second lap.

That's because there just isn't enough space on the track for all the drift gods....

I reckon Spring action day encourages bad driving standards more so because it is mixed cars out on track which creates inter brand competition. There were numerous occasions when much faster cars were being held up by people determined to hold the up as long as possible. It only takes 1 or 2 of these idiots and your 15min session is all over without before you really get a chance. Usually it's best to get out first thing in the morning or late in the day.

That said it was a fantastic day and I always enjoy watching the track action. One other observation was the number of cars losing wheels...... I spotted 4 on track with 3 wheels.

That was my first action day at Combe, usually I do track days there. I was in a white Evo 10, you are right about what you say about idiots and brand competition. My car is not the fastest, trickest or prettiest out there. But one or two idiots did not want to be passed by a white Evo 10, and the attempts they made to prevent an overtake were outright dangerous. I appreciate I have to adjust to action day rules being different, i.e. not needing consent to pass someone etc, but when another driver throws an old banger across your bows to avoid an overtake, it gets a bit scary out there ;o)) Not sure if I want to do Japfest now....
