Mini road trip - Manchester to Glasgow

Good morning gents

I'm just looking for a few pointers. I am heading to Glasgow from Manchester in a Transit Connect full of IT kit on Wednesday morning, and once I have offloaded the kit I am a free man.

Now, appreciating that I am going to be driving a small van, tell me, where's worth a look whilst I am heading back.
Also worth noting that the van is not mine

I'm looking for interesting diversions from the M6, places of particular interest, PH sites and locations, somewhere pleasant to stretch my legs.

I'd second that, nice place especially with bikes to look at (or is that only at weekends?).

I go in the week sometimes and whilst not as busy as the weekend there are still quite a few bikes around if the weather is nice

Looks like I can work that one into the route home - come back via Barnoldswick, Burnley and back onto the M65 or through the villages and onto the M66.

Ok, that's the nearly home part covered, how about some nice, open A/B road stuff in the north lakes and borders? I'll not set any records, but it'll be a giggle to press on in a van.

Also, any pointers on a good place to stop for lunch?

You can run alongside the M74 all the way to Gretna on the B7078 then 7076.
Much more interesting.

Just remember the Transit Connect is subject to van speed limits.
Cumbria will take great delight in nicking you for exceeding those, especially if you commit the double hanging offence of driving at car limits for a dual carriageways in a van on single carriageway.
