Good scene lighting/cinematography training courses

Hello all,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows some good courses, ideally for people with experience, but wanting to really add some higher end knowledge with more expensive kit to then be able to advise and improve their provision of video/hardware advice for the company they work for.

We are currently using things like HVX200 video cameras, some chromatte keying stuff, Bowens constant lights and boxes etc, Canon HD DSLR cameras for some video shooting... but would like to see work at the next level up, either to reinforce what we are already doing, or to enable us to improve technique and knowledge further in our applications.


Several days to a week is a viable duration for the course.


Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Worth checking out the National Film and Television School. I had contacts with them a long time ago, not sure what they are up to these days... worth a google.

009 practical lighting skills - ARRI Lighting Academy I

I knew most lighting basics, but this course was a real eye opener for me. Took place at the Arri headquarters in Uxbridge, and got a tour of the place too, and some free kit!

I think the guy who taught me on that was David Locke - i'd ask for him if you can. Very talented lighting director and general all round nice guy. I always see him at the broadcast shows every year doing seminars for Arri

That has given me some to go on for now. The second one in particular has courses that seem right up my street with regards to just formalising existing skills and making sure we are up to scratch in any gaps which I am sure there are!
