Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good quality 'soft serve' ice-cream machine for the home. I'm looking for that '99' ice-cream taste you get straight from the Mr Whippy van.

I've been looking on ebay for ones used in the trade but they are going for about £1000+ and weigh about 100kg's (e.g. CARPIGIANI) which is a bit steep to feed my ice cream habit.

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers, Richard

Jimmy's food factory covered this recently - it's been taken off iPlayer but check out this vid;

Shows how much effort goes into making them (and the cheapness of the ingredients!) and maybe justifies the price of the industrial equipment.

Really want a 99 now!! The machine he bodges together at the end is the most PH solution!

Might be a *bit* commercial for the home!

As said, the real machines cost a fortune and are very temperamental!

Hate that bloomin Mr Whippy style ice cream, it's like some weird form of lard.
Give me only ice cream that you have to dig out with a strong spoon.

I like the taste, but hate what goes into it. Quite horrible. It's liquid gold for those retailing it at the end though.

I can imagine the conversation with the Mrs as she walks in from work.

You - "Hi darling"
Her - "WTF is that"
You - "It's a.."
Her - "Well it's not staying here"

Funnily enough I was wondering how I was going to explain to the G/F how a Walls machine had magically appeared in the kitchen...

I would love one of these, we have a normal ice cream. Maker but it takes an age and is better for cocktails to be honest..

:O NEED - surely the cartridges will cost nothing if buying at wholesale!
