Hi chaps
There was a thread a while ago about a convertible variation of the Esprit produced in the early 90s. If I recall it degenerated into handbags-at-dawn by some of our more knowledgeable members about body strengthening (yawn). Without wanting to encourage further chest-beating the old thread is here if you want a look;

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=3&f=17&t=49696&h=0&hw=convertable

Anyway, I couldn't find my mag article on the car back then, but stumbled across it last night, and it's pretty informative. For those that were interested I will scan it for LotusEspritWorld, so keep your eyes peeled. Sorry I have no idea about hosting the pics in the meantime.
Cheers
Mark

PS Interestigly a version was planned for the Stevens era cars; wonder if any were made?

Ahhhh, now that got my memory clunking away....

Back in the early 90's, Mark Irwin (with fellow nutter/engineer, Kevin Burley) from Esprit Developments was marketing the St Tropez conversion from PBB Design along with his Rover V8 engine swap. He used to use a V reg S3 (in yellow) as his demo. That car, apart from the lack of roof, had a 3.5 ltr V8 engine in it (someone was looking into their crystal ball!) that sported a Holley carb and some shiny bits.

Esprit Developments were selling the engine conversion kit for £1280 (plus £550 if you wanted them to get greasy hands)
The St Tropez kit would have made a £4500 sized dent in your wallet. This kit was featured in October 1991 Top Car magazine...get rummaging in your attic!

(By the way, there is mention of "Reinforcing to A post, screen surround, doors and rear chassis with no loss of luggage space" in their blurb.....but that's been argued about before!)

I'll send it over when I email to LEW. Just have to sort a couple of issues with my scanner first.

Urrrgh!

That shot from the rear is awful. The whole engine lid looks like something off a tractor. Sporty not.
