Having probs with the rearTurbo oil return hose

I’ve been having probs with the rear turbo oil return hose (SFS) splitting where it slides over the (short) tail on the rear Turbo, im guessing what’s happening with it sitting really close to the turbo, the heat is making the hose clip red hot and then its cutting through the hose, (The Turbos are T28 VNT's) The same prob was there when i collected it, but i was thinking at the time it was a one off prob, but a few hundred mls later its done it again.
Just wondering if its a common prob or more related to the T28's? i was thinking maybe a longer oil return tail so the hose would be away from the heat?
Any ideas?

You fitted a new oil return pipe and it only lasted a few hundred miles? I just fitted some new ones from ACT which i think are the SFS pipes, i hope i do not have the same problem.
What hose clips are you using? you really need the thin/flexible ones, the thick ones that look stronger tend to go "D" shaped.
How long is the metal pipe from the turbo oil return, could it be too short?
The silicon hose that i got from ACT has about a 6mm thick wall, reinforced, it "seemed" to be better quality than the stock hose.

16mm inner bore, i thought this was standard SFS hose to be honest, ACT bought all the SFS hoses and tools and has taken over supply for Nobles.Themetel pipe from the turbo is short, without looking i would say 3/4"?

i was also thinking the same myself last night, make sure the heat insulation tube is put back on and slide it up to the top to protect the pipe closest to the turbo.Funny enough i insulated the hose the other day before we had a run out to the coast, Has a temp measure i used some of the insulation sheet i had kicking around in the garage, wraped the hose in it and slid it up between the turbo and hose then tied it further down the hose.
Just out of interest, would a mtr length be enough hose for a replacment? just not keen how the current hose slides over the tail (not a tight fit)& if its fluoro-lined
It looks a pig of a job to get to the sump end of the hose, any tips?

have to say if your fitting a hose the noble ones are as good as any as ALL will melt if not wrapped IMO.. ones in that pic show that.
What I have done is made the pipe from stainless and it only has 3inches of hose between the sump now so degridation of this hose due to heat will be eliminated

Looking at the picture in the link l think it shows old pipe that needed changing anyway plus the jubilee has been over tightened cutting it's way through the silicone.

heavy oil breathing or contact with oil will degrade all makes of silicone hoses.
Fluro Lined hoses is what you need. Fluro is an expensive material at £95 per Kilo,
so many hose manufacturers will dilute the content to cheapen it.
Some will make a 0.5mm layer (too thin) and some will dilute material by 40to 60%
which is not much FLuro content to protect against oil.
Quality for us is paramount, so we make 1mm or inner liners in 80% FLuro which is a very high concentration
against oil this will be fine (100% pure fluro is too sticky to mould and offers little advantage).
The other issue is temperature.
Normal Polyester reinforced silicone will take up to 180°C at peak and 170°C maximum working temperature,
after that the hose will have a limited life and perish.
The hose there is very close to the turbo, so temperatures may be too high for any hose,
unless you have Nomex Reinforcement which takes 220°C
Nomex adds 40% costs, Fluro adds 80% so it is not going to be a cheap hose,
but this could well do the job and saves you replacing them every few months.
You would need to get a temperature reading under the bonnet by the hose,
and perhaps use a heat shield such as exhaust wrap etc.. for added protection.
