How do this lot make any money ?
Every time I put the TV or Radio on there is one of their ads on, always the same, someone with a regional accent saying that someone left a chip which turned into a crack and how that was stupid because they would now have to pay their expensive insurance excess which they could do without in the current economic climate.
I had mine repaired, it was crap, fell out in a couple of weeks and hasn't changed since, anyone else sick to the back teeth of Brummie matey bloke trying to sell you a screen repair ?

Seriously though, just find a local bloke. Even for my Rover 75 it only cost £130, for something more mainstream you won't be playing much more than the excess.

Wasn't there someone on here a little while ago that caught sight of the invoice that was being sent to the insurance company - IIRC you could add another 0 to that £20 I seem to remember that the poster questioned whether or not it would have been cheaper to fit a new screen
Re them making money, they're prefered suppliers with a lot of insurance companies.
What amazed me was a few years back, I cleverly smashed the windscreen on my E39 M5 (put a disk lock on it and it pushed through the screen when the steering wheel retracted - on day one of ownership!). I rang to get the screen replaced and the fella said, IIRC, it would be around £380. When I said I was paying for it out of my own money, he said "oh, right...I can do it for £220". Eh?

100%!! I was asked on Sunday why I wasnt miffed and that was my response. A few inches higher and a nice kink in the roof, or lower and a pranged bonnet or smashed headlight. £70 isnt the end of the world, but tis a nuisance.anonymous said:

This is largely due to the type of repair equipment they use. A chipped/cracked windscreen is not going to make much of a difference in a rollover situation. The emphasis is more on the glass being correctly bonded to provide some additional structural rigidity.
Most repaired stonechips will always be visible to some degree. Much will depend on the type of damage, the position and obviously the person repairing it.

Yeah get it replaced if needed before the MOT t.I say this because my insurance company got a bit shirty after I did three screens in one year - blame Norfolk Council for deciding that replacing a road surface I use daily properly was too expensive and that spraying a layer of tar and covering it with chippings was far better.
I've got a crack in a screen right (inside the area checked for the test) now but with 11 months till the next MOT it's staying cracked till just before the test when I'll shell out the excess and get it done
