Just received these new beauties today to go on the M5... new PS3s that have replaced the old PS2s. Will be interesting to see how they handle and if they help stop the DSC light dancing in 3rd and 4th gear smile

How long did the old tyres last?

I'm running a new set of Conti CS3s (put on by prev owner when I bought the car) and I rarely see the DSC light come on. Perhaps I'm not trying hard enough...

I thought the new Pilot Super Sports replaced the PS2. With the new PS3 tyre slotting in below that? Happy to be corrected.

The Contis on my my M5 are pretty low and i'm looking to replace them soon as well.

Let us know how you find them!

Not entirely sure tbh, as I switched to VRed Wintracs through the winter/colder months. (BTW, these were absolutely superb in the cold/freezing/snow)

I think PS3s do replace the PS2s, but specifically for heavier/larger cars as the PS3 comes with a consistently high load rating. PS3 supposed to offer the same dry performance as the PS2, but with better wet performance. So all in, it should suit the M5 perfectly well whilst retaining some decent mileage.

The new PSSs slot in between the PS3 and trackday MPSCs. I see it aimed more for the Sunday supercar driver.

ie,

PS3 = uber saloons
PSS = Sunday supercars
MPSC = trackday warriors

Ok,

Thanks for clearing that up, it was something i'd read here:

The PSS tread pattern does look at little aggressive for year round use.

Most of the M5board folks live in sunny/hot climates... and if I lived in SA or California/warm US, then I would probably also give the PSS a try if they stood up to the mileage.

Seems like we are all wanting the holy grail of MPSC like dry grip/responsiveness, with limpet grip levels in the wet, and mileage of a touring tyre. It ain't gonna happen and something's gotta give! Hopefully the PS3 will be a good compromise, and will report back. Scrubbing in should not take too long hehe
