Where to get my 20yr old E30 remapped?

Hello.

I'm from south Wales and I'm wondering anyone could recommend me a good place to get my 318iS remapped.
I'm just after a bit more poke. iv'e tried "off the shelf" chips, but these ruined my idle and it coughed and stuttered all over the rev band, until you floor it...
So i would like to do it properly.
What do these usually cost?

Not being pedantic here, just curious.

Isn't a 'remap' something that gets done to a turbo'd / SC'd engine and a N/A engine gets 'blueprinted'?

Or are they both one in the same?

Maybe I'm being thick here, but aren't you supposed to have an NA engine remapped after 'chipping' it, so it runs properly?

Not to piss on your bonfire, but I'd imagine you wouldn't get more than 5hp or so out of a remap on and engine like that, unless you've got some pretty serious modifications to mechanical parts (exhaust, intake, cams etc).

The additional stresses on worn parts won't do it any favours IMHO

Yes no big numbers will come out of this but a 1150kg car and a 136bhp, 5hp will be felt.
Also the M42 has a low redline in standard (6500) alot of chips/remaps extend this to 7000.
Usually 5-10 BHP is to be gained from the M42 with off the shelf chips.

Is the car modifed at all? As I can't see a chip really making that many odds on a na motor. All it'll do is lean out the air/fuel ratio to make a tad more power. But it might come at the risk of running worse on poorer fuel.

If anything on the car isn't up to par either it could cause flat spots too. Hence proper dyno tunes are usually the best way. If the car is modded at all, eg air filter or exhaust. The. A chip designed to run on a stock setup would likely make it run like crap.

Save up and supercharge it. There was an article in Performance BMW a while back about doing just that. Relatively inexpensive if you've got a solid motor anyway.

I'm sure you could do it on cheap. Not sure it'd ever be that inexpensive unless you can scrounge the parts for free and fab up any custom parts you'd need. You'd still want to map it somehow too.

It's not as if they are trying to add 200-300hp. If any parts start to fail then they where already knackered or needed replacing anyhow.

He's better off buying a head gasket set and cleaning up the head than spending money on 'chips' imo. But each to their own.

Reguards to the chip/remap any around the Cardiff area?
Also on E30's a airfilter cone thing actually decreases power, and a uprated exhaust on the iS is pointless as in original trim they flow pretty good anyway.
A charger is out the question lol.
Ohh and the motor has done only a 126k with no nasty tappet noises either.
