Has anyone here fitted these? I am tempted and have been offered a reasonably price set and am fairly tempted with them.

Are they ste, or are they any good?

I'm not overly interested in 'slamming' it - rather firming up the suspension and replacing my 16 y.o. shocks and springs.

Cheers

Im have them fitted and am currently going back to standard. My 1.8 focus is wayyyyy faster than the mx5 at the moment because these bloody ebay coilovers make the "5" hop and skip over any little bump.

Theyre ok if you like it slammed or drive on pool table smooth roads.

They're height adjustable aren't they? Can't you just lift it up a bit?
(I know nothing of these ebay coil-overs, they might just be a bit rubbish).

There is a massive thread on this subject over at the owners club. I fitted them, and they transformed my car. Best mod I've done. But I freely admit I only had knackered shocks to compare them to.

Shocks on mine failed the MOT, so I've bought some TA Technix (essentially the same kit as far as I can gather). My philosophy was they're cheaper than replacing with standard and I'll be upgrading in a couple of years if I keep the car.

Also tempted by some eBay specials.... Would be even better if I got offered some at a good price......

Need to sort the rust out too....

This is getting expensive all at once.

Bugger.

They are what they are ,a budget cheap set up, and they will not last the test of time, you have heard that old saying....buy cheap, and you buy twice, they are rubbish, lay out for a good set and enjoy her, with no worries.

+1

I only considered them because I'm planning an upgrade after saving up a bit. No point in getting them as a proper solution to a problem.

My son bought a cheap Mx5 with a cracked rear spring, we fitted a set of Rokkor coilovers from Ebay France. £180 delivered from belgium fitted easily and coated with ACF50 dont seam to be corroding (zinc plated) ride is ok not as good as coilovers costing 600-800 but not bouncy at all even on rough roads only if they are set too low (as we did at first ) are they like this in normal height or slightly lowered they are fine . if your on a budget they are incredible value.

I think they are excellent value for money, and great for the road.

Defo better than tired old OEM stuff.

Anybody got experience of the raceland coilovers on tack?

I am also considering a set of racelands. The other option is just a putting some sport springs on my standardish KYB's(non adjustable) and then saving for something better. Use will be road and occasional trackday.

Thanks

Currently have a set on our Mk 1 track car, which had been fitted before we bought it. All we did was set the height, it hasn't even had the geometry done yet but sticks to the track like a limpet with a set of 6.5 x 15's and 195/50 B F Goodrich G-Force 2's.

I would say they are too soft for the track, and you would be better off with more expensive SPAX shocks or whatever.

Hmm - interesting series of replies.

As all I want to do is firm up the ride a bit, I think I'll leave them for now.

Thanks for the info guys.

Cheers

I wouldnt touch the racelands if i was you mate i would just wait and save up for something like meister r's i have them on my civic and cant fault them one bit, they are fully adjustable and easy to set up, and my mate just bought racelands for his civic and you see why they are so cheap when you get them and they dont even come with top mounts so you need to take apart your old shocks and use the original top mounts and if you have to buy new ones this would probably work out at the same price as a good set of coilovers. And from speaking to a few other people with racelands one guy told me one of the shocks started leaking after two weeks of running them , hope this saves you some hassle

Just to add my 50p worth.

I was originally under the impression my mx5 had spax coilovers.
Recently proved this was not the case, and they are infact TA Techics (along those lines), and are similar (if not identical), to the racelands.
I had used the car on track before I realised, and have continued to do so.

They are fine for what they are. I've coated them in acf-50 and they will get another coat come the autumn.
I will replace them with something more substantial in the future, but not until these are showing signs of wear.

I have had my friendly mx5 specialist to have a close look at them, and he's more than happy with the installation (new top mounts etc), but said ride doesn't have the finesse of more expensive parts.

Yes im a bit peed off with getting told inaccurate info from the previous owner (one of many many fabrications of truth), but I'm just going to use them and enjoy the car, as let's be honest their better than an 11year old standard setup.

Roll is un-noticeable from inside on track, and on pics I've got of the car, it sees minimal from
Outside too.

There better than a kick in the nuts.

i have TA-technics on my car... dont really rate them.. for a start they use the same springs front-back, which makes the rear rather bouncy.

am going to be taking mine off for a set of Meister R ones im getting with the GB on nutz smile

Hmmm, i'll have to have a look at that. Can't say I've ever found mine to be bouncy, however I'm supprised they use the same springs.

You've possibly force my hand to replace them sooner than I planned, I'll have a good old look at them in a month or so.

An old thread (but it does show I am using the search function!) but I am considering purchasing some raceland coilovers.

I am not expecting the quality to be as good as the more expensive coilovers but my mx5 is a second car and I like to keep to a low budget so these are ideal for the price, just seem to be some people who love them for the cost and others who hate them! The car is used at weekends only and the plan is to get out on quite a few trackdays throughout the year.

...So, I would welcome any opinions from people with them fitted to mk2s.
