Yes, the sickly sweet little Turkish treats. I am utterly addicted to the damn things.

A friend's mother brings me proper stuff (Karavan) over from Greece occasionaly but it's starting to feel rude to impose!

Can anyone reccomend a source closer to home? The stuff the supermarkets stock is terrible and the market stalls around here sell nasty kebab shop fodder.

There is a Turkish owned stall in Borough market every weekned that sells wonderful authentic baklava (and also damla - a pine sap based turkish delight )

They do a whole tray/box thing of them.

I never bought them again. Not because they are st but there's too many in there, and I'd end up eating them all myself

Find a good recipe and make it yourself. It's very easy (just takes a very long time to do it properly!)

I have (and do) but they're fiddly buggers to make and I like the variety you get in the big boxes.

Im also a big fan! Not sure where you are located but if you want traditional Turkish Baklava and other Turkish delights then try North London. There are lots of different locations i.e Harringey, Southgate and many small outlets that sell freshly made Turkish deserts.

Made a batch last night which was very good but I'm not 100% happy with it, will refine recipe next time but for now need to resist the temptation to eat the whole damn lot O_o

Waitrose do a nice tasty expensive small box of baklava, lasts about a minute.

I paid a visit to the famous factory in Istanbul a number of years ago. I came out with a box full of the stuff. The box was leaking honey all the way back to the hotel ! It was the best i've tasted and well worth the visit half way around the world for a snack.
