first of all, thanks for all the help recieved on here in my other threads!

i can't believe i've just spent half an hour in the garden, taking pictures of ####ing flowers while my neighbours look at me like i'm some kind of perv, but here's the result. found it very difficult to judge how blurred the background was going to be using the lcd screen.

doing the flowers (and some other family stuff) to put on a lcd picture frame for my grandmother, as she gets out less and less now

thanks for any comments, good or bad, really has been a help so far

fujifilm hs10 bridge camera, has a manual zoom and focus

had it on aperture priority setting, experimented with auto and manual zoom f3.2 or f3.6, depending on what it let me use

i'm going to try again at my mothers house, she gets sun for longer, so i'll have more time to practice

Interesting - not sure what results should be expected from one of these, they're nicely composed but seem a wee bit soft perhaps? What shutter speed did it give you ?

OP. Another novice here taking the same type of shots for the first time.
I can't advise you personally (I don't fully understand myself) but I got a lot of good advice in Random Photos page 868 and one or two subsequent.

That should just about be fast enough for handheld - if you're shooting with the lens wide open (ie minimum f number) and iso400 there's not a lot more you can do other than using a flash or try again when it's a bit brighter wink

I wonder if it is maybe not quite focussing properly - were these ones on manual or auto ? scratchchin

For what its worth I would do several things.
1 Look on the camera for a flower symbol which is macro mode to get closer to the flowers - really fill the frame.
2 Don't worry about it being sunny as plants reflect light and often cloudy conditions are best for taking pics of flowers
3 Find some better flowers other than Myosotis (Forget-me-nots)
Here's a few ideas from me

Having picked a few pics it would seem that portrait rather than landscape suits flowers better and once you have downloaded them add a bit of extra colour to them to give them a bit more punch.
