What convertible ??

Having driven loads of convertibles in work etc now thinking of getting one myself but need some suggestions looked at the SLK,VW Eos, MX5 and Boxster so far budget up to £10k cheers in advance

Not the most PH of cars in the world but my wifes step father was recently in the market for a £10k convertible and ended up with a Focus and it is a pretty nice motor.

Merc CLK Cabrio is nice. Pretty gutless performance wise and limited rear seat practicality but is a fairly classy place to be with the roof down. With the roof up you wouldn't know you were in a convertible.

Firstly, if you're going to get a convertible, buy a purpose built roadster rather than a chopped tin top.

Personally, I'd be looking at a 986 Boxster (don't discount the 2.7) or a 3.0 Z4.

Agreed and yes to the 2.7 had one in work was really impressed by it

If you can stretch to about 11k, I'd suggest a VX220 turbo.

I would +1 this, I have one myself so of course I'm very biased, but the VXT is such a nice little package (if you're not concerned with creature comforts) that it'd be a shame not to recommend it.

Alternatively you could save yourself a bit of cash and look at an S2000, Z4 3.0 or even an E4 3-series.

OT: I'm surprised Mazda didn't make a convy version of the RX-8.

It would probably blur the lines between the RX8 and the MX5 too much.

Elise if you're happy without too much comfort, S2000 if you want more comfort and can live with revving engine hard to get performance, Boxster S for easy power and performance and handling and comfort, standard Boxster for similar for less money. All great cars. MX5 another option - fun, good handling, last well and not too expensive to run. Drive them all and see what floats your boat - they are all quite different.

It was a toss up between the S2000 and Z4 for me. Both great cars but I went for the Z4 in the end due to a lack of decent S2000's in the area at the time of looking. Can't go far wrong with either really.

already a classic. Big V8 grunt. Easy to work on, plenty of good specialists and good (ie cheap) parts availabilty AND it will only increase in value.
