Really? Perhaps the last to be built for the Australian market, but wouldn't BMW take the last off the production line for their museum?

I wonder what evidence he has to support the claim? (Not doubting him, just interested).

As for BMW keeping it, not all manufacturers do I don't think - the last Saab 900 was registered by Beechdale Saab, Nottingham so Saab obviously weren't bothered about keeping that one.

Wiki says "The last E38 (a silver 740i with black leather interior) rolled off BMW's assembly line on July 27, 2001"

ETA I suppose the seller could be talking specifically about the last 750iL though.

Unless there's a badge on the dash saying so or some other proof, it's just another big saloon.

For Australia, that is a very good price considering the year, km's and what it is.

When new in 2001, it was $271,265

It is also complete and utter overkill with 110kph limits which are ruthlessly enforced.

It's a crying shame that they are so draconian out there on speeding.

They take it to another level with their massive billboards of cops with radar guns to instil fear and dread.

A friend and I travelled in a camper van from Cairns to Melbourne last summer. It was a VW LT35 with 90bhp and it must have weighed about three tons with all the camping bits.

The maximum we got from it was 146kph after about 10 miles of WOT. It was as slow as anything I have ever driven.

Aside from freeways we were not overtaken once in that entire journey (5 days).

The aussies have been castrated as far as motoring is concerned.
