Scary!

http://www.theage.com.au/environment/climate-chang...

Climate change causes heavy rain, which erodes mountains, thereby unbalancing the techtonic plates, which causes earthquakes.

Sometimes you just have to take the piss out of science, and yes, I am a dumb forum poster. The reporting of this by the press deserves even more ridicule.

There's so much money invested in climate change now that they will do anything to link it to 'ooooo big scary things'.

Thankfully, I am becoming more convinced that the general public are losing faith in this nonsense. I was in Waitrose yesterday and of the three local causes they are supporting at the moment, one is the Winchester Climate Change Action group........ their green coin pot was almost empty (with a cat protection programme and a poor kids trust brimming with tokens) rofl Although stating that £100 pays the wages of their executive director for a day probably annoyed a lot of people, but it was also an interesting insight into the non-jobs created by this fking bullst irked

Agree completely but what do we do?
If climate change funds were charity based the industry would have died a year ago but like Europe we are forced to pay for it.
I know they are a bit bloody pricey but we need some way to allow referendums on issues like these.

Not a chance. If they did then they'd have to allow the "sceptics" to broadcast their views and this would destroy the climate myth totally.

I had a look at WCCA's website, and the £100 per day thing is actually true, what eejits!

You could feed 50 starving African kids for a month on that, talk about gravy train!

I walked on a mountain last week. I must have eroded it because i'm not very slim. Have I contributed to global warming?

Yes, pay more tax to government or to a local climate group to offset your sins.

If I was that Climate Change organisation I would have headed up my stall "Neglected Cats Cause Climate Change". They might have done better.

You lot should be embarrassed. The actual paper is discussing time periods of MILLIONS of years. Did any of you actually read it, or did you start frothing at the mouth the second you read the headline-grabbing (err...) headline?

The paper discusses climate change as a natural and long-term variation in the climate, and not recent changes that have been attributed to man.

One good comment from a reader of The Age that sums it up for me:
"I've found the paper, and just read it (G.Iaffaldano, L.Husson & H-P Bunge, Earth and Planetary Science Letters 304 (2011) 503-510).....I see where they are coming from, and their discussion appears sound.....but it is a massive, ridiculous leap, and also highly typical of the media to misrepresent their work in this article....

The crux of the paper is saying that over a 5-10 My period changes to erosional activity in one area of a continental plate leads to a reduction in elevation (ie smaller mountains), which then leading to changes in monsoonal behaviour, which then speeds up the erosion process in another area of the plate which leads to a long-term reduction of tectonic resistance along the India-Eurasia plate boundary.

The principles they refer to are correct, but we are talking a 10My period to see a slight reduction in tectonic resistance.

Regardless, this is one of the biggest leaps I have ever read in my entire career. This is where science is becoming dangerous, where the media, non-scientists and politicans will just take the 5-second media grab and run with it, and manipulate it to fit their political agendas, where as the devil is in the detail, and the detail is typically devilish to their crusade."

EDIT: Big edit to absolve The Age of any wrong-doing. They have made no mention of this being man-made climate change.

Why should external atmospheric factors speed up or slow down a process essentially driven by an internal heat source deep within the earth?

Is the paper just throwing out random musings or have they conducted research that backs up this theory?

Has the paper been PROPERLY peer reviewed?

I searched both the newspaper article and the document for "IPCC" and found it nowhere. So the huge steaming pile of turd appears to have ventured forth from your post.

For £5 a month you could enable someone in a third world country access to clean water, but you don't want to do that, no no, for £100 A DAY you can keep WinACC's Exec in coke and hookers.

By properly, can we hope that it isn't someone benefiting from climate change being real ie a scientist who isn't taking government funding to generate new ideas for new taxes? </cynical>

And this is just one of many minor groups who do nothing yet take money in on the basis of a lie (I had not heard of them until I saw the collection box at Waitrose and I live here!)
