Restaurant in Windsor

Can anybody suggest a place to eat in Windsor? We would like to take our parents out, ideally it should be somewhere fairly quiet (in terms of noise). We were thinking about Brown's but it's too loud inside.

I would suggest Browns and ask to have a table situated in a 'quiet' corner.

Service is always great, food is nice and also has a really nice setting (being right next to river)

I like Brown's, it's a decent enough place, just a little noisy at times and it's quite important that we can talk!

For quiet e.g. romantic meals I always went to Stirups which was quiet & very nice, just outside Windsor though.

The ideal place to take parents out to would be La Taverna in Windsor, not far from Brown's.

Glibey's on Eton High St is a place I'd take my parents to, classic well cooked English menu and lovely, friendly service. The serve their own wine grown in Henley too.

I really, really dislike Browns for many reasons (starting with the closure of the Old Trout, the b'stards) and certainly would not recommend the food to anyone over the age of 11.

The Bel and Dragon was actually my first thought, but my wife reminded me that we went a couple of years back and it was rubbish... Have you been lately?

Hinds Head is nice, but we've been as a family before.

If you're happy to be slightly outside Windsor you could try;

Belgian Arms, Holyport
Fox And Hounds, Bishopgate (Englefield Green)
Barley Mow, Englefield Green
Cottage Inn, Winkfield
Thatch Tavern, Ascot

or failing that, there's always Punto in Old Windsor

Bel and the Dragon is way too variable. La Taverna was great a few weeks ago, still very traditional, and probably quiet enough. Gilbey's in Eton would be another fave, excellent food and service and meets the volume requirement!

Browns, Carluccio's etc, all just too noisy IMHO.

I've had variable results in Carluccios - don't bother with it now.

The Fox and Hounds is / was closed last week being refurbed. Says it will open in April so I guess it may be worth a punt when it opens!

It's no where near Windsor really but I'm just back from the Vanilla Brasserie in Sunningdale and the steak is really very good.

Topped off with superb service and an excellent match of wines and food I'd be happy to rcommend.
