Not shocked at all, it was one of the reasons why I was looking to sell the Saab and getting something with a smaller engine....well it was until I found out that a smaller engined car (in this case a 1.4 megane) was actually going to cost me nearly £500 a year more to insure. Thats an almost 50% increase over my existing policy on the Saab and at least £300 more than my renewal on the Saab. Needless to say I'm sticking put for the time being (well until December when I treat myself to an MGF for Christmas)

You may well know this, but the engine size of a car isn't the only thing taken into consideration when calculating your premium. I went from a 1.9 120bhp diesel Astra (05 plate) to a 2.0 Mazda 3 148bhp petrol (57 plate) and the premium was about £100 cheaper.Soovy said:

Claims do definitely account for the premiums going up....by an average of £44 per policy...dont let the figures cloud the fact the these companies are making huge profits, but i concede that the donkeys making fraudulent claims are not helping the matter, rather providing the insurance companies with exucses to rinse as much as they can from us.
