The new MG6 sports car is launched

I did look for another link but could not find one. Is this the REAL make or break of this brand?
Must admit I was slightly annoyed about them saying 'its not really british as parts come from abroad'. Well, going by last week Toyotas parts come from Japan so whats the difference?

Its the real thing but I think the term 'sports car' is quite optimistic. Warm family hatch more likeMust admit I was slightly annoyed about them saying 'its not really british as parts come from abroad'. Well, going by last week Toyotas parts come from Japan so whats the difference?

So Rover is synomymous with saloon cars and MG with affordable roadsters and what do they produce?
A saloon with an MG badge. I doubt this is a mistake that Mr. Tata would make.
China might be good at cheap manufacturing, but it has a lot to learn about marketing and product positioning. What a waste.

You are aware there have already been quite a few MG badged saloons aren't you?A saloon with an MG badge. I doubt this is a mistake that Mr. Tata would make.

I'm sure he knows both - he is using Tata as an example of a company that knows how to develop and market a classic British margque successfully (along with BMW).
While MG have made saloons they have tended to be warmed over Austin Rovers and have never really been synonymous with the marque. Ask anyone what an MG is and 99% will say the MGB.
Nevertheless, even when the MG badge was used as a marketing badge like RS, VXR or Cosworth, it was usually a competitive product.
I think the point with the MG6 is that in a world of modern blobs, it's just a mainstream saloon. That said, that is largely a function of the fact that cars have got faster and more competent so the market for a slightly upmarket, faster version is largely gone which is why MG Rover largely faded anyway.
Still has to be worth a look as an alternative to the thousands of other foreign cars bought here every year. Ignore the badge, try the car. No, I wouldn't either...

If they had bothered to build a car from scratch I would have more respect for the company and more interest in the car but considering they've just rebadged another model of theirs, I just can't take it seriously. I seem to remember a similar story where a Tata was rebranded and marketed for silly money...
OH dear dear dear!
More Pis-on-their-Heads negativity.
I actually like it from what I have seen so far.
I have also actually owned an MG in the past and it was very good.
It's turbo engine implementation was way better than some of the other turbo cars I have driven, including the Impreza which had Monster turbo lag!
I like to think of myself as an Engineer and support British Engineering as much as I can, I suspect this could well be my new car later this year.
Of course I will test drive it with my eyes open and be very critical if it needs it.
But from what I have read so far, this car is up there with the BEST handling hatch the Focus, which is very high praise in my books.
British Designed and Engineered as per the new Mini and Rolls Royce etc. with the building and the INVESTMENT from another place seems to be the best we can hope for these days.

Well more bleeding fool you then! It's a bit of a gawky, mis-shapen lump, and I see nothing that should tempt anyone out of their Golfs and Focuses. Doing so out of some kind of misplaced patriotism will just encourage uninspiring products like this one. When you're trying to re-launch a brand, 'just good enough' really isn't.

I will however make my own mind up - thank you for your input though.
