I started up my 993 yesterday, and there was a slight but distinctive 'pop' noise from the exhaust. Should I be worried?. Also, I had the discs and pads replaced about 1k miles ago, genuine parts, etc. now they squeak on low speed braking?, should I be worried?

My 993tt makes a few pops and burbles when its cold and idling. Also if you blip the throttle. Sounds great to me and the car runs fantastically...nothing to worry about I'm sure.

Sounds like the car needs an "Italian tune up" some minor pops expected due to fuel system characteristics,,,,after tune up mentioned above brakes should have bedded in nicely.

Maybe some holes in the exhaust or pipes that dissappear when it is hot???

The 'pop noise' happened as soon as I turned the key, and the engine ignited. It's never done this before which is why i was a little worried. I know the engine ordinarily makes a great sound, but this wasn't great sounding if you know what i mean...

Can be a pre-curser to problems with the EMU, if the car begins a sequence of starting, running rough for a couple of minutes, stalling and then taking loads of turning over to get started again, you'll know that's what is happening

Mine used to pop like that, especially if it had stood for a while. Then I got about 30 seconds of uneven idle where the car would self-rev, before it would settle down to a normal idle. This didnt happen all the time just one in every ten or so starts.

After I fitted the sports silencers, the new popping and banging on the overrun was much more apparent and frequent!

So, be warned it gets worse if you make any more modifications!

Popping noise:

My Cup Car does this, very occasionally, usually when hot, but a loud pop while turning over/as it fires. Doesn't seem to be a problem, just character!

Brakes:
Give it some heavy braking (after checking your mirrors!!) and see if that sorts it.

BTW, did they change the anti-squeal shims???

If you want to hear squealing brakes, drove my Cup Car into London the other evening (Ace Cafe Classic Car magazine meet. All gentle braking, the noise hurt!! Just needed some short, sharp stabs from speed to get rid of it -I guess something builds up on the pads? In this case Pagid orange.......'NOT for road use'.......
