i got caught out by this *scam* a couple of days ago (just looked up the company on google). basically they said they had buyers lined up to buy my car and 2 people would be popping round tomorrow to see it. nothing then nothing yesterday nothing today.
i've had a look at there website which says no refunds - is this legal. is there anyway i can get my money back?

I've heard of these.
1)did you pay with a credit card. You might be able to tell them whats happened and get your cash back.
2)tell trading standards you've been had.
3)Have a beer, sit back and accept that you wont do it again, and your warning others about it.
But definately try your credit card company.

Makes no odds to your credit card company. They are jointly and severably liable. In other words, if you get nothing out of the scammers then your credit card company foots the bill to you.
You would need to prove that you were misled, though.

i was speaking to a colleague earlier and apparently the onus is on the company to record the phone call to prove you wrong. an insurance company shafted him by charging more than he was quoted and because they didn't record the call they were ordered by the credit card company to refund him.
if you really want to be evil go to there website and submit loads of fake info about wanting to sell your car - it's funny how they'll phone you 2 minutes later but won't be bothered to answer the phone if you try to call them to complain.

update:
i phoned barclaycard today and explained the situation - suprisingly connecting cars aren't on their list of dodgy companies! anyway they've lodged a dispute and suspended payment so if they want my £80 they'll have to prove that they'd delivered the service.
i didn't sign anything so the only proof will be a recorded copy of the telephone call which they can't legally have as they didn't inform me the call was being recorded. even if they do i'm more than happy for barclaycard's chargeback department to listen to it and for make there own mind up as to whether or not i bought the service under false pretenses.
either way i've got my money back and connecting cars won't get any business from anyone i know.

well if you pay by credit card you can get a refund at least
i've been doing a bit of research into the law regarding recording telephone calls and it is legal for them to record the call without telling you but i very much doubt this company does as they seem a bit tight to shell out for the equipment / storage.

You would be surprised at how some companies' change their attitude when you inform them that you are also recording the same call. Ranging from "do you think that is necessary?" to "you're not allowed to do that". Tell them that it is necessary, and yes, you are allowed to record the call as you have informed them of the fact.
In most cases I find that any sniffy attitude rapidly changes to co-operative, or you get bumped up the chain to a more senior operative. It's great fun, and usually gets you what you were after.

wish i'd seen the website sooner, got caught, with the same "we have 5 people waiting to call you" and curently trying to get a refund throught my credit card, i got wind that they have an office in hampton court KT8 2RY and one in London EC4 V4DZ or thats what the bloke said on the phone, so don't know if it's true.

Most mobile phones have this ability these days. Use it.
I make a point of telling the person on the other end very clearly that it's being recorded. They very often refuse to talk to me any further.

just do a chargeback. there's #### all they can do about it.
