I've got a telephone interview next week and have been told that I will be asked some competency questions. Bearing in mind that it is a car manufacturer and a sales/marketing position that I've applied for, can anyone offer any guidance as to what these questions might involve?

Thanks in advance.

My assumption is that the questions will be based upon the competency requirements in the job spec, either just the essential ones or both the essential and desirable. So the call will probably go through those one by one asking you to demonstrate, through evidence, that you do indeed have them and to what level. So if previous sales experience is an essential competency, a question may go "do you have previous sales experience?; in what sector?; how did you fare against targets?; and as these may be easy questions to bluff, they may then ask "what sales techniques worked best for you", this will allow you to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the competency required. Essentially, have credible answers to be able to convince them you have the competencies they require, and in abundance! Hope this helps.
