I've just bought a mini one for my daughter & it only has one key which isn't the remote key. Knowing how she loses things I want to get a remote key so I can keep the existing as spare.

Would I need to go direct to Mini dealer to get a replacement key or is there a cheaper alternative?

Going to check cost with local mini dealer tomorrow.

mini only as it needs coding, you can do it with the BMW DIS software but not many people have that.

You should have depending on the age 2 remote keys and a plastic key (2000 - 2006) if its later then I think its still the same but not too sure on new models.

I think they are quite pricey

Just had quote from Mini & for a replacement remote key it is £180 yikes as the key needs programming as it is a pre 04 car. (car has to go in workshop to do)

I can get a std none remote key for £43 so looks like this may be the one to go for although I would have liked a remote key.
