Car bought with airbag LED taken out, anything I can do?

It has been fixed by a mate- he clearly showed me the LED missing in my speedo. For now I have a replacement speedo with the bag light on.
I bought it with the airbag fault- but the dealer said he couldn't understand what had happened with the light. (I bought it with the airbag light on- he then "fixed it" by evidently taking the LED out and fooling me into thinking it was sorted!
It's no big deal- it's ok now, I know the fault, and all is well. Nevertheless, I'm pissed off about the lying. I know he's a car dealer, but he knew I knew my stuff and would find out eventually.
I'd love to just confront him, but what good would it do? Would you bother?

So you buy a car from a dealer who deliberately deactivated the airbags? Then don't threaten court proceedings if you don't get your money back or he fixes it? Did he see you coming? I think that the BiB would be very interested in this little story. I knew someone (in Leicester) who rebuilt write-offs and deliberately rebuilt a Toyota with no airbags working, then sold it on. Some people have no conscience.

He promised to fix the issue- but then never did. I lost patience with endless excuses in the end so I asked for a few ££'s back to fix it myself. Apart from the airbag issues a couple of other problems were minor issues.
It's the principle that bothers me more than anything.

You appear to be very mellow about the whole thing.

I`d have been slightly more annoyed that the dealer thought he could pull the wool over my eyes with a safety related fault.

Don't get me wrong- I am mad but nothing you do these days seems to change anything. Say I confront him now- 5 weeks after I bought the car- what's he going to say?
"Sorry mate, yes I pulled the bulb out- do you want compensation?"

I mean by all means, if the law says the dealer can't do anything like that I'm willing to give it a try, but in reality, I imagine he did it because he knew he was going to get away with it, whatever happens.

If you can be bothered and want some compo from him, sit outside his lot on a nice day, maybe get a deck chair and a copy of evo to pass the time, then just let everyone who goes in to his yard know what's happened. Scaring away his potential customers isn't illegal and he'llprobably be disinclined to contact the feds after what he did to you anyway, but it should irritate him enough to offer you a fair incentive to go away.... maybe a couple of hundred in cash

All is fine- I spent a good weekend with a mate checking it out. New rear discs are needed. That's it.
As I said it's the principle of being a cheeky git and telling me it's fixed, when in fact it was quite the opposite!

IIRC the OP has already settled with the dealer for a cash payment in lieu of the problem so , to be honest, you've accepted the car as is so I'd forget about it.

There must be a code stored for why the light is coming on in the first place or it is the airbag ECU playing up. What does the code reader say?

It needs a new airbag module. Which is fine. Fit new one- code it to the car, jobs a good'un!
I do think I need to forget about it too- just pisses me off how people take you for a fool sometimes!!

Don't know how much they are but if they're expensive might be worth seeing if anyone remanufacturers them. Try www.bba-reman.co.uk

Unless he can be caught on a speed camera, I doubt they will do much. (I don't usually go down the belittling the police route, but a recent experience has burnt me shall we say)
