Brave man.... some Liberals are not happy.

Vince Cable has attacked David Cameron for comments he is due to make about the impact of mass immigration on society, labelling them "very unwise".

In a speech later, the prime minister will vow to cut immigration into the UK to "tens of thousands".

But the Lib Dem business secretary said his words "risked inflaming extremism" and were not part of the coalition agreement

What - again?

Every European leader makes an anouncement like this every so often when public support in other areas seems to be falling.

It is usually empty rhetoric.

You can thank those that voted BNP for this.

A comment on the radio this morning

"We have to discuss immigrantion as it is a concern for many people and ignoring it lets it fall into the hands of extremists"

Anyone who thinks the BNP should be removed from politics is an idiot. The BNP is getting votes and this has pushed the mainstream idiots to look at immigrantion.

Hopefully they will look seriously at europe with millions voting UKIP

If you added the UKIP votes to Tory votes (seat by seat), the Tories would have won an outright majority...

And is the fault of the UKIP voters or the fault of the tory party?

All very interesting, but it has no impact on immigration from within the EU.

Though there is a question of how permenant such immigration is, as the countries they come from coverge with the EU average.

I remember reading somewhere that due to changes in exchange rates and differing economic growth rates, Britain is already a much less attractive place to work for Poles than when it joined the EU.

Since they have already announced reforms to work permits and student visas, it isn't.

What are you basing that assumption on?

Agreed, HM Government cannot cut immigration without withdrawal from the EUSSR. Walk into any cafe, coffee shop or hair salon in a large city and the worker(s) will most likely be from a former Iron Curtain Country. Ergo, I will vote for UKIP in future. All three political parties are full of pig dung IMO.

It's a mixed bag.

Nothing much can be done regarding citizens of other EU countries. Outside the EU there is a bit more scope.

However, most business groups are heavilly reluctant to support curbs on immigration.

I particularly enjoyed the "because they are about to start defending 'that poor bloke from Midsomer Murders'" comment .. Does the editor read PH?! Back to topic .. this has a very staged feel to it. Cameron is playing the tough guy and Vince is playing the nice guy - so basically they both get to say what they want.
