Hi,

possibly a daft question - is it possible to install a new camshaft into the cylinder head WITHOUT removing the head? I ask as my engine had a new camshaft 1000 miles ago with all new followers etc, but I want to upgrade to a more agressive profile (more power) and I did not want to strip it all down if possible ??? Any advice gratefully receieved...

Head has to come off as is feed through the rear of the head ( unless you have clearance). Not a big deal, but will involve more work.

Look on the bright side, at least the nuts won't be rusted on. smile Beware of going too mad with a cam as if you have standard carbs, head and exhaust, you may not gain much from it apart from losing low down power and having to rev it to get any.

Thanks for that - I have ZXR9 bike carbs on there and a free flow exhaust, so I am hoping that the power will come thru OK. I also want to put a programmable ECU on there, so I can tune it. I think I have enough clearance behind the engine to insert the new cam...

If it's the kit car in your profile, then I guess you may be lucky. On my RS2000 there's no room behind the head for it to come out, so the head has to come off.

Bike carbs seems a popular mod...back in the day it was a 38DGAS or twin 40s. I'm still runing the stock 28/32(36?) carb but TBH I'd be happy just to be able to drive it with that carb fitted. smile

I dont know what car its in, but I would be looking at saving money and putting a 2 ltr Zetec in there ( if its a kitcar etc). Will give more power in standard guise than a pinto with the bike bodies on there.Save a few pounds in weight and better power delivery.
