Just how thick are some people
Discussion
Just sat in my local National tyre place waiting while they fitted two tyres on mine, random bloke wanders in, asks the chap behind the kiosk how much two tyres would be for his Micra in a rather strange voice, National blokey says, ok what size tyres and the bloke just points at his car and says THAT ONE in a Lou and Andy off Little Britain type voice. At this point I was struggling severely to stop pissing myself laughing and tried to mask it rather unsuccessfully by coughing... By now the bloke behind the kiosk must have cottoned on to my mirth and started laughing his head off, at this the bloke with the Micra stormed out with a sense of humour failure.
Anyway, it made me laugh... oh and before anyone else does

Got to admit I know a huge amount of people who havn't a clue what size tyres are on their car (also pre warning I set up a thread like this a while back and ended up getting torn to shreds....you have been warned)
How hard can it be to have a look at the writing on the tyres before you walk into somewhere, or the manual, or on the wife's car a small metal sticker on the drivers door frame? No excuses, guy was a moron.toxgobbler said:

Don't really see the link to intelligence here. For the vast majority of people, cars are products they expect (and pay) somebody else to know about. I once went to buy a tie and didn't know what my neck size was. I didn't even know necks had sizes other than thin or fat

Don't see much difference really.

Oh I'm not making excuses for him, hell I fully agree, but as has been pointed out by others for lots of people a car is just a tool and thats it, they have little to no interest in the essential maintenance side of things after all as far as they are concerned thats what they pay other people to do the things needed to know. Working on a fleet servicing department I get calls from people like the guy in the OP all the time asking what is in my mind stupid questions like "What do I fill the washer fluid bottle with?" and "My car says it's due a service, does that mean it needs a a service?" Both questions that I'd expect pretty much anybody to know the answer to.
If I was getting tyres for my Triumph TR8, or my S2000, I would have ordered in advance exactly what I wanted, as it is unlikely the local tyre place would have what I wanted in stock.
However, if I wanted tyres for the Mazda 2, or the Hilux, I would expect a service adviser to know what fitted them, & recommend something from their stock. I have no interest in what size they take, or in what brands suit them.
If they did not know what fitted these common cars, I would go somewhere more professional.

Would the receptionist be required to know from memory what size and make of tyres are needed, or would they be permitted to find the information on their handy database? However, if I wanted tyres for the Mazda 2, or the Hilux, I would expect a service adviser to know what fitted them, & recommend something from their stock. What would you do if they did what you couldn't be arsed to do when you walked in, and wandered over to the vehicle to read the details off the tyres? Would you then drive off?
I had a a slow puncture a few weeks back on my saab, drove it to the Tyre place im 6ft 6 and i waspissed off that i had to fork out for a new Tyre i couldn't be arsed to bend down to look what size tires they where i just drove into the garage and told him i needed a new. Big deal so what if he couldn't be bothered to look himself? i fail to see how that makes him thick? for all you know he knows a lot more about cars than you do.The fact that you laughed at him shows your a
