My sister has just bought a 2005 118 d sport with 45k on the clock.

The service book says it was last serviced in 2007 but the computer has been reset.

What i was wondering was what needs doing at the next service for this age and mileage car?

Also how much does this roughly cost and is it worth taking it to a bmw specialist?

Thankyou

2005 car is on variable so will need servicing between 12-18k miles, so lets say 15k miles.

15k or 2 years Oil service.

2 years Brake fluid.

30k miles or two years again is just oil and a few filters, if it has hit 2 years again you need to do brake fluid.

45k miles will be oil and filters and I think coolant change, plus you will be needing brake fluid again as the car is now 6 years old.
I think there may be a couple more filters to change too.

It seems strange that there has not been a service for 4 years, have you called BMW to see what records they have?
What was the mileage when it was seen 4 years ago?? Hopefully it was he first service and around 15k miles.

It may be worth paying a little more to service it at BMW, I found 1 series servicing really cheap, brake and oil was around £240 inclduing filters, plus it is back on the BMW system, so come resale if someone does some homework that could help get the best price for her car.

The last service said 24k miles i think, the computer says next service 6/12.

First service was around 19k i think

It might have been serviced by private garages but have not reciepts to prove it.

Im not sure how good the bmw dealer is in Derby, i will have a look at specialists.

Is it worth doing an oil and filter change every 2 years regardless as she only does around 4k a year

I think that the interval computermebob might have been reset as it has done over 20k since the last bmw service and it says that the next one is until next year

Someone may well have reset it last June, but that doesn't mean it was serviced, why didn't they put the details in the service book?

How many owners has it had??

Year one it did 19k miles, then over the next 12 months it did 5k miles and then 20k miles in the last 4 years but no history?

My point is, you sure it hasn't done 30k miles a year since 2007 and hence not been been serviced at BMW and had the mileage recorded?

Does it feel brand new? Our company 118d is a March 2006 with 48k miles on it and feels extremely tight still.

I would call BMW and see when they last saw it. I hate missing history on a car, been caught out before with clocked BMWs as they wear so well, luckily I have got my money back on first occasion and it set alarm bells ringing the next time.
Bought a 530i with 80k miles on it and then realised there was 4 years missing history after I got home, it felt a bit tired on the way back and that made me look. Called BMW in the morning and they said it was last seen at BMW Hindhead 2 years before, called them and they last saw it for suspension work and it had 136k miles on it then.

I am sure it is fine and just needs a service, just can't see why someone with a BMW would not service it properly, or if they did not bother putting it in the book.

I think thats whats happened mileage looks okay so doesbt look clocked, just looks like the previous owner never serviced it.

Going by the mots the last owner, owned the car for 2 years possibly more

Its going to get done asap just need to decide where and what exactly needs doing. Just dont want to get ripped off by someone claiming things need changing when they dont

A full service and the should be good to go, then! smile

I know just about all manufacturers do 'variable' servicing these days, but I just don't like it, personally...

To give previous owner the benefit of doubt, it could have been serviced, but not by BMW. Would have dropped out of warranty in 2008, and been looked after by local garage, mechanic in family etc since then. Daft not to update book, but plenty of non pistonheady type of people don't understand importance of history. If you want to do some detective work, first port of call might be garage(s) that have done MoTs (if owner bothered keeping old certificates!)
