I've got family on Lewis so have never needed accomodation, but as far as I know the only big hotels in town are the Caberfeidh and the Seaforth, popular choices for weddings etc so maybe worth checking out, both are within walking distance of the centre of town, ferry, pubs etc.

i managed to escape "the rock" sometime ago
the main hotel would be the caberfeidh the seaforth shut down some time ago there is also the royal hotel
the royal hotel is right beside a restaurant called HS1, the food in there is pretty good and there is plenty of drink
everywhere

there are also a few B&Bs, the tower guest house being one of them

are you going to be up on Costa del Stornoway for any length of time?

Tarbert to Stornoway is a cracking drive if the weathers on your side.

Another accommodation possibility could verge County hotel. Good food and beer in the center of town. I don't know what the rooms are like though.

As is the drive through Skye up to Uig en route, I much prefer going to Lewis this way, going 'the other way' the road from Inverness to Ullapool is a bit bleak.

I have only been to Skye once, years ago so I am really looking forward to the drive.
The weather is looking pretty good so happy days. I am booked into the Thorlee which looks interesting, will probably venture out a munch elsewhere.
This is the route I am doing and there is plenty of time to stop between ferries.

Ooh, never been that way beyond Fort William, I normally carry on up to Invergarry and then over to Kyle and cross to Skye on the bridge, post up a review afterwards, curious to know what the roads from Fort William to Mallaig and then up through the South of Skye are like.

Thats the way i would have liked to go but have to go via Mallaig which should be just as much fun. I will try and stop to get pics and let you know how it goes. I am only going in a berlingo but a good road is a good road no matter what your in.

I'm quite jealous - that's a cracking route. We're doing a trip to Skye in a few weeks and that's the route I've planned (via ferry) on the way up. Coming back over the bridge though as the road back to Spean Bridge is brilliant too.

I did Lewis and Harris a few years ago in my Ibiza and it's a great car for it (do you still have your yellow one?).

Fort William to Mallaig road is pretty good for most of the way now, it's been improved over tha past few years, it used to be single track with passing places for about half of it, not very much fun meeting a 'fish lorry' coming the other way. There was only a short section of widened single track last tiem I was on it.

Pretty nice sweeping bends and dips on the way in to Arisaig.

Sorry to say ally the seat is away weeping

I will look out for the fish lorries on the way up lol.

Its gonna be a long couple of days but it saves me going back upto Ullapool in a couple of weeks and it should be a nice adventure.

Try the Park Guesthouse in Stornoway. I've got a travel guide business ( Secret Scotland) and the Park is the place that I use when staying in Stornoway.

Also, try to eat at Digby Chick restaurant in Stornoway. You'll probably need to pre-book as it's one of the best options in town and isn't very big.
