I'm currently looking at what to replace my TVR Cerbera with and would like to find out a little more about Skylines as they appear to offer great performance and hopefully Japanese reliability.

Any thoughts and feedback would be gratefully received.

Very quick, very powerful, very agressive, not the cheapest cars to insure or run.

I'd have a look at www.gtr.co.uk/html/ - The Skyline register. Cem, who owns the site has had a couple of lovely Skylines (including a stunning 'Nur' Spec model). Incidently, Cem has sold his Skyline and now has a GT3RS, which he reckons is cheaper to run, better mpg, rock-solid warranty and cheaper servicing - which probably puts the Skyline in perspective!

Thanks Chris.

Sounds like a Skyline may cost the same to run as a Cerbera which defeats the object for me.

I'll have a read on that site.

Swapped my cerbie for a skyline.

Great cars but NOT cheap if you want big power. Not cheap to buy either if you want the latest R34 model. Heavy on fuel as well if you tune it.

However it handles better than the cerbie (on std suspension) and feels way more solid. None of the silly niggles you get with TVRs.

If you are looking for a cheap alternative to the cerbie I think you will be disappointed.

Rob.

Are they a bit uninvolving?

The 4WD and all-wheel steering stuff sounds like it might ruin the fun a bit.

Try the GTS-T then (or GTT if you're looking at the newer R34 spec)... rwd, no drivers' aids.

'Course, you can just install an aftermarket diff controller

Costs will vary considerably depending on age and model. Trying to compare a Skyline and a TVR is very difficult. They are totally different. They achieve the same result, but come from very different angles. Cem's Nur Spec Skyline was a pretty extreme example. It needed servicing every 2000 miles and was running a serious 500 bhp+ full Nismo engine!

You can pick up earlier examples for a little as £15K, rising to £50K + for very good late models (Nur spec are extremley rare) - I think Cem's was valued at around £60K. I would be fairly certain in saying that the Skyline is less likely to let you down than the Cerbera, but it would still require a lot of TLC

I don't own a Skyline but they are still great fun despite all the electronic driver aids. Sometimes these aids can ADD to the fun.

2wd 2.5T ones go for £5k at the import auctions, very tidy ones too.
