Help! Identify this car for me please PH!?!

Ok, so here's the background:

My wife went to Paris when she was 18 with her mother, that was 1989. The had a place to stay near "aux deux magots" cafe in St Germain and had some nice times there. Before they came back they bought a black and white poster of the cafe, i'm guessing the pic was taken somewhere around the early/mid sixties:



We've now got this framed and up on the wall and everyone who comes to stay ALWAYS asks "so what's the guy in the picture driving?".. assuming as I'm a petrolhead I must know all about it.

Truth is, I haven't got a clue.

Can the might of PH come up with the right answer?

I'm thinking Delage maybe, but who knows?! Help!

It's a Fiat Balilla 508S, mid thirties.

Actually i was going to say a fiat...as a pure uneducated guess, just made me think fiat...of course didn't have a clue what model it was.

I've googled a bunch of images and that is definitely it.

I think the car in my pic has some differences around the front wings vs. the images I've googled, but its definitely that car.

The front wings do look non-standard, most likely a mod to give it a more contemporary look at some point. Also odd that it has pressed steel wheels on the rear in place of the correct wires (on the front). Perhaps had a replacement axle from a standard 508.
