New cameras on the M1 J25 - J28

New cameras (I assume they're cameras) have appeared northbound on the M1. These are in grey boxes and a similar size to a Gatso, with one for each lane.

Anyone seen these and any idea what they are? I assumed they were speed cameras, but wondering if they're ANPRS jobbies, or maybe something else.

Just googled, and they do look similar to these:



Not positive if they're exactly the same as I was trying to see them in the rear view mirror, but the basic size, shape and colour are similar.

I hope I'm right in saying that any speed camera, even on motorways, will be yellow? Though I think average ones are excepted from this.

They are speed cameras. They operate when the lower than 70 speed limits are in operation on the overhead gantries.

ETA.. Sorry that doesn't make a lot of sense. They operate to enforce the varied speed limits on those stretchers of motorway.

Same, a mate phoned me literally minutes after i pulled off the M1 saying he had seen cameras up... i had just been doing 0.9 leptons or so

my trousers gained some weight in the arse area!

But unless the varied limits were in operation you wouldn't of had a problem at that speed even if they were live. Some people say the ones on the M42 still operate even if the varied limits are not in operation, but I'm not convinced that's not just an old wives tale. But then again I'm no expert & could be wrong.

Personally i ain't risking my licence...I will let someone else go first

It's hard to tell but of you read the govt website it seems that is what they are implying but I don't think I trust my interpretation skills

If I ever do consider speeding I have never had a problem with crap-nav speed + 10%+2 with any type of camera, but of course if we choose to speed we must expect the risk of being caught.

I generally sit at on motorways at 80 indicates which is 76/77 actual in my car... Think I might go down to 75 actual for cameras just to be sure...as you said if we speed then we must take the conciquences...
