falling in and out of love .....

with your car.
I have started to dislike my car.but at the same time,I still love the wee scamp. so I drive a sportka,not a problem because every time you drive it,you feel good on the move.
i like the way it looks,i like the way it drives and because it only has the bare minimum of safety equipment like abs and ummmmmm seatbelts, i feel that its me in control and not the car.
it also is paid off in december so it will be all mine.
now the only thing that is getting me down is the fact its falling apart around me. no wait maybe falling apart is wrong,in the 18 months i have owned it i have had to get, new battery,new alternator,new waterpump,new drive belt,new tensioner,new front wishbone bush's,new brake disks and (2 sets of)pads.now i have only driven this car 15k miles.
its due the mot in july and i know it will need at least£400 spent on it, now i think if i spent the cash on fixing it, it would get through the mot no probs,but(why is there always a but),if im to drive the car i would want it perfect again,so that means i need to get the bubbles that have started to appear around the filler cap,and the heating needs fixed. the heating in this car melts your face off.it need a new heater control valve i think,it also needs the air con sorted(hopefully only a regas though)and it drinks petrol like a fish for all the power you get.(30mph/94bhp.but weighs less than kate moss)
so now the question.....
do i A- spend as little as i need to on it and sod the heating(put the windows down in the summer and great in the winter) and the air con and it can rust beause i only need to run it for a year,2 max and i will have saved around 2-3k to buy something cash and then i have options,or
B- bite the bullet and change now,prob taking out finance for more than i want to and get a car that i would probably regret buying within 6 months,but will be reliable and quiet and comfy.
now as a follow on question (yes i know i am taking liberties ), is there any small cars out there,that has the same drivablity as the ka,but none of the niggles and time in the dealership getting fixed. but at the same time i would love a small comfy car instead?
s do i start looking for a small car, sporty but comfy, nippy but doesn't go in a huff if you show it a nice twisty road and ask it to please you.? or do i run the ka into the ground and save all the cash i save once its payed up to get something that i normally couldn't get due to not having the up front funds.
(i think not a bad attempt to make a fused mix of what car and a dellema question).

you can get plenty of good cars for not a lot of money
Volvo S40 (galvanised body panels so no rust and typical volvo reliabilty and comfort)
Mk II VW passat
mkIV Golf
renault megane's
Vectra's
you're never going to get as much refinement or sound deadening in a small car. larger cars are quieter and more comfortable because they are designed to be driven on motorways all day without killing the driver. These dont offer much of an entertaining steer though.

If you like small "sporty" cars, what about a Puma? (as you are not averse to a Ford)
If you don't like the car and it goes wrong again in future, then you will start to hate it. That will mean that you will, at some stage, just want shot of it. That in turn means your decision making is quick (which you later might regret) so better, to my mind, to put her up for sale now and find another car at leisure.

What's it with Fords that makes the motoring press rave while owners remain largely underwhelmed (Top Gear about the Mondeo: 'We keep telling you how good it is, you keep telling us how bad it is')...

We were also looking outside the Sportka usual suspects, so perhaps it was just outclassed? It was the wheezy engine that I would not have been able to live with. I have an idiotic friend who bought one of these based purely on the reviews.
Although the car handled quite well, it was a farce in every other respect.
The engine was gutless to the point i presumed it was knackered, it sounded terrible and the trim was a disgrace when compared to every other car in its class.
I genuinely could not understand anyones reason for buying a sport Ka if they test drove it first.
