Hi guys,

I bought a new bike last week, and had an Abus D-lock fitted by the shop. They've fitted it with the "D" pointing downwards (more like a U), and there's a bracket on the front of the bike that the shackle clips in to. The only problem is the shackle is relatively loose in the crossbar of the lock, so over bumps the crossbar jumps up, rattling like crazy, which is pretty annoying in London!

Is this normal with D-locks, or should it really no rattle that much?

Cheers

Doesn't it come with a flat rubber section to put between the frame and the lock holder to stop it rattling?

If it's the lock rattling in the holder then there are usually rubber o rings you can move a bit to keep both parts of the lock itself from rattling around.

Ah, it's not the lock rattling on the frame - the rattling is the "U" shaped bit rattling inside the flat bar part of the lock that it pushes in to. So if you take the lock off the bike and shake it, it also rattles (cool tambourine though!)

Are there rubber o rings on each side of the U shaped bit? You can push them closer to the flat bar part for a better connection when it's closed.

The rubber rings are on the end of the black u shaped bit.

Just got home and checked...no rubber rings on mine! Will check with the shop tomorrow!
Pretty sure it's this lock: http://www.abus.de/us/main.asp?ScreenLang=us&s...

I've got the Granit X-Plus which is a very similar lock. Mine only ever gets carried in a rucksack so I'm not sure how rattly it would be, but a quick look at mine shows that it's a looseish fit so has definite rattle potential. There are no adjustable o-rings on mine either.

If It was me I'd try sticking something into the sockets on the locking bar to make the D-shackle a tighter fit. Something like a bit of cardboard or an offcut of inner tube would probably fit the bill. I've not tried it though so be careful that nothing can vanish into the lock mechanism and bugger it up!

If these locks don't have O rings couldn't you both simply put thin ones on yourselves? hehe
