Looking for some advice, my neighbour, who I get on well with, has left his daily hack outside my house, he's damaged it and I should imagine that it's been written off as he has a new ford focus delivered recently.

Anyways, running it through askmid, it shows no insurance, probably switched it to his new focus.

As this has little affect on me (i.e. it's not going anywhere, and at the moment is taxed) my first thought is to leave it and allow him the time to move it on.

The only danger is if he actually starts to drive it around/past my PAJ.

Thoughts?

Ask him what his intentions are?

If you get on well with him ask him what he's going to do with it surely?

Yup, in a friendly way, rather than an accusationary way, good call.

yes

.... by being a friendly neighbour, and reminding him that if he leaves it there the Police could take it away and crush it (maximum exageration!)

This. If you get on well with him, surely it's better to keep it that way. If you're upfront that you've been running his car through insurance databases then I imagine he isn't going to be friendly for much longer!

I'd let it be whilst the car isn't going anywhere, if he starts driving it around, deal with that IF it happens.

Right, he's driving it now, and it parked between my two PAJs, starting to piss me off now.

Has he recently taken a personalised number off it after crashing?

Takes a while for system to catch up/he has to notify insurance.

Move your cars, go and remind him that driving uninsured could lead to the police crushing it and him getting in a spot of bother. If he asks how you know its uninsured, just say you assumed as it looked written off, he had transfered insurance to his new car?

I think in answer to the above he'd just tell you it's none of your business.

I'd make a joke of it, just say, "be bloody careful round my cars with that, since it got smashed up you have a lot less to lose"

It will bring to light that you're aware of the car and its proximity to yours without accusing him of breaking the law.

you have to live next to the guy after all

He runs someone over and disables them, they get very little compensation and he's bankrupt for life. Report it, you're doing him a favour.

Is he actually driving it, or has he just moved it into a different spot? This talk of him crashing and killing someone is a bit irrelevant if he's just moved it to accross the street.

Move your cars to another street for the night and set it on fire.

If he's just moved it to park it and isn't actually using it, it wouldn't bother me. He might be stuck with the old car for a few days until someone can collect it. Last time I sold a car I had to have it hanging around for a week until the new owner could collect it, although I just postponed the insurance swap until then.

Thanks for your advice.

He's using it, but infrequently, tax is now out.

I've decided to leave it as it's not the crime of the century, I'm not the law, and it's his look out.

The chance of him hitting one of my POJ are minimal, and anyway, at least I know where he lives!
