I got my shipment last night and started doing the alloy panelling. Just looking at it is there really any point in doing the double skin. I don't really see a benefit and I don't really want to put the extra weight into it. What do you guys think?

If weight is a major concern then if you skip lunch today you could fit the double skin kit.

I'm fitting mine (and having lunch).

So ease of cleaning and looks is the only up side to it?

The double skin kit should be fitted. It does give several advantages.

Extra chassis bracing
Easier cleaning
Extra weather proofing
Sound deadening

Enjoy the extra time spend with the drill in your hand!!!

The only one I care about in that list is the extra chassis strength. Is this a known thing or a guess? Also does the double skin raise the height of the seats at all? I haven't looked further through the manual yet?

It doesn't raise the height of the seats as these bolt to the floor panel that is already welded in. Also, it doesn't alter the position of your foot in relation to the pedals, as there is a cut-out section here creating a small footwell.

I feel its a no brainer really...Id get annoyed with raised chassis tubes under my feet and imagine cleaning it..

one advantage though if you dont fit it, if you drop something it gets trapped and you can find it in the future when cleaning all the mud and grim inbeteen the chassis tubestongue out

if weight is an issue get a carbon sheet and have a carbon floor skin on top?

double skinning the floor gives zero extra rigidity, double skinning the sides of the chassis will. But not double skinning the floor looks crap IMHO....

Ok you all convinced me it was worth doing. Far out there is a bit of time in doing it. Two days and I've got two more panels to go and the all the alloy inc the double skin is finished

Also one other question, there are two brackets that end up between the radiator area double skin. The manuel doesn't say what size to drill the holes in the double skin for these brackets to just shows a pic. I guessed making them the same size as the bracket but I also wanted to check what these are for before I fixed this double skin in and can't get back in there if a nut and bolt are required?

I think these will be for the radiator bobbins. They need to be big enough for the bobbin to stick through at the top and big enough to get a socket on underneath to do up the nut on the bobbin iirc. Can't remember what size but you could try Stig's build site as they are probably in there.
