Halfords 2 tonne trolley Jack

I need to buy a 2 tonne trolley jack locally this afternoon

Halfords do one at a good price

Handle is long enough that it makes pumping it easy, but not too long that it makes it awkward to use. My other one has a shorter handle, with an extension that screws on, and tbh it's a pain, stupid design.

thanks for the feedback was hoping the Halfords one wasn't rubbish as they are convenient and local to my works, So I can pop in and grab one before heading home at lunchtime

I've always just managed with the stupid flimsy jacks that come with cars in the past (obviously I use axle stands)
but I have a proper job to do this afternoon so really need a decent jack

i found my old one was pretty good...until i lowered my car 60mm (see profile pic) and so it wouldn't fit under it, DOH! had to buy the aluminium low entry jack from machine mart for £80-90! halfords one is ok if you're on a budget mate

Same experience for me - the Halfords one is fine but not very low, so I also have another one now...

For a bit more you get stands and creeper but lose the plastic case.

I've got one (think it's a 2 ton - might be 1.5...)

Works well and keenly priced, but it's way too chunky to get underneath the TVR. Might be worth checking if you're running something with lowish ground clearance.

B&Q currently have their low entry racing jack half price @ £50. Bargain if you don't need to lift heavier. Halfords are ok, shame I'm not near you unless your heathrow way, u could use my trade card.

Thats what I use not bad bit of kit.

As for the height issue I have a peice of 2x4 screwed to the floor of the garage drive onto that and then the jack fits under the car

If I recall correctly, the 2.25t SpeedyLift Halfords jacks - apart from being a great time-saver and a good bit of kit - have a much lower minimum height. A standard Halfords one doesn't fit under my car now, but I believe we got a SpeedyLift under it.

My own jack is a very old and hefty thing left by my dad, looks like a useless brute but also fits easily under the Audi and hasn't given me any trouble.. I like big old heavy-made things like this but, as has been said, the Halfords ones are good if you don't want to spend silly money.

Oh, and +1 for the lifting kit, great value there.

I've used one belonging to a mate and it's nasty but cheap and only really good for occasional use

Can't say I like it much - it's not very well made - little wheels are a pain on anything but a smooth surface - it was a "need one sunday" emergency purchase after my 13 year old 3T sealey one sprung a major oil leak during some sunday work on a car.

I've had it a year, I thought I could live with it but I can't so I've just bought another 3T Sealey one to use

I'll keep the halfords one as a chuck in the back of the track car for track day wheels and tyre swaps

If your car is low, this will not fit under it, i have a BMW E30 with a 60/40 drop and it doesnt fit under by a long shot, even mtech -15mm drop i doubt it would fit, as long as thats not an issue it has been good enough for the 2 years i have had it.

Had mine for 3 years and it is still in good order, would recommend it.

Although as others have mentioned, it wont go under anything even remotely low, my 328 sport isnt exactly what you might call 'slammed' (its standard height), but I still have to use the dodgy BMW jack to lift it a few inches first. Only a minor inconvenience I guess.

As I said, if height is an issue, check out the 2.25t Advanced SpeedyLift one. I'm pretty sure it's lower - I'll check it out next time I'm there.

I understand that is is nothing flash but I'll only be using it for odds and sods, and it is something I've been meaning to buy for ages

The obly thing I don't like about the halfords jack is the steel jack plate as it scratches the under seal.
You can get replacement rubber heads, but I made a pad out of corking and duct tape.

you know the easiest, and cheaper, way around this?

Drive whichever corner of the car you want to lift onto a short plank. You have lift.

Or, somewhat weirdly, caravan 'chocks'

12 year old 3ton "American parts" Jack is the way forward, replaced the seals once....... it lifts far more than 3tons

Been using one of these for ~15 years. Cheap but damn good.
