Going to the Oldtimers GP in August in a convoy of 3 - TVR, GT3 and SL55AMG.

Anyone have any decent driving routes from Calais using mainly non motorway, but also a section of derestricted Autobahn please?

Any advice greatfully accepted - thanks.

Hi, apologies for delay in replying but I've not logged on to PH for a while!

It's not really possible to get from Calais off motorway and take in any derestricted autoban nearer the Ring; the nearest autobahn I'm aware of is NE of the Ring and means motorwaying from Calais.

There are some good cross country routes though, depending on how long you've got.

1. Motorway from Calais to east of Liege then turn south at Verviers (E40 > E42). Follow this to Prum then follow the 410 through Gerolstein, to the 257 at Kelberg. 4.75hrs

2. As above but come off E42 at Malmedy on 265 > 421 to Stadtkyll and 258 to Nurburg. 5hrs

3. Use less motorway from Calais and get off E40 at Hannut (West of Liege), N64 to Huy, N66 to Hamoir and Trois Ponts then N68 to E42 and continue with 1 or 2 above. 6hrs

4. For the least motorway (and to miss the Brussels ring road!!) from Calais > Lille > Charleroi > Namur > Huy, then 3 above

5. For the derestricted autobahn, you can either do it on the way to/from Calais or as a quick trip once at the Ring. If going from Calais stay on the E40 past Aachen take the E31 towards Euskirchen and then there's about 25km of Autobahn. A good loop including a quick derestricted sprint while at the Ring would be 257 north from Adenau to Gelsdorf, E31 south to 412 and back to Nurburg.

Advice from the locals is do not go at high speeds in a group or else you might get accused of racing. 3 of you should be ok though wink

I'll also be there in my TVR so I'll hopefully see you there wavey

Cheers,
L'rs
