I hate to consider myself as middle aged, but in terms of those age range boxes you tick on surveys I guess I am.

My dad and I both race, and as a barge we use a 5 year old Ducato, converted into a motorhome. I used to be on the insurance to do the occasional trip back from circuits (note - no fronting issue here - I probably do about 20% of the miles the van does in a year).

Dad got the renewal quote a couple of weeks ago - up 100%. Eek. Rings round insurers, and he can still get it for £200 with only him on the policy, but wherever he tried it went up about 100% with me on it.

Why? Everywhere was perfectly happy for the last 5 years, no impact on prices with me on it.

For info - my dad is 72 (and still racing), no claims, points, accidents in at least the last 20 years. Me, I'm 39, again no points ever, last accident/claim (my only one) was in 1993, so well over ten years ago. Surely I don't comprise an additional risk? As it is, on late night trips I'll have to drive it 3rd party, which isn't the ideal situation.
