Took the car out today and got the front and rear toe settings sorted at a garage at Carlisle, on the drive back i noticed the oil pressure droped below 20 psi when i accelerated and as soon as lifted and backed on the pressure picked back upto 40+, ive nevery seen this happen before.
At tick over and crusing the oil pressure is spot on.

I havent had a chance to lookin to this but im hoping its not going to be a hard fix.

I need to do an oil change so if i need to take off the sump or the dizy out to look at the oil pump gears, not a problem.

So what do you all think as ill get stuck into it some time soon.

Cheers

Have you checked the oil level? One cause of this I've seen on a couple of engines is the pick up pipe in the sump drops so It's resting on the bottom, you still get enough oil flow at low revs but it can't cope once you open it up a bit.

I had this happen on one of my Wedges...turned out to be a loose connection/poor earth somewhere. You might be lucky. smile

Change your oil filtre.

If persists, then sump off and check strainer for bits of silicon/crap etc.
inspect oil well.

Thanks all for the advice,

ill be looking at the car soon, i have checked the oil level and that is ok, im going to do a static test to see if the oil pressure drops off with revs then ill check the oil pump drive before i dig deeper.
Does any one know where i can get a mechanical pressure gauge and hose to fit it up where the electronic sensor is....

Cheers

Sykes-Pickavant used to do a gauge with an assortment of thread adapters to fit all sorts of take-offs, used to sell them at Halfords but I haven't looked for some time. No doubt there are other makes such as Snap-Off [spit] and a rummage on Ebay may well turn something up. The oil fittings will probably have BSP threads (e.g. 1/2", 3/8" or whatever), I doubt the RV8 production machines ever saw a Metric thread wink - and anyway, BSP is standard the world over for oil, water and hydraulics.

Be careful as they introduce another point of failure, my mate installed one on his Rover V8 and the pipe snapped off and he lost all his oil ;^(

I have seen this effect on my old 350i, when you lift off it suddenly picks up a couple of PSI. I imagine earthing, too and when the engine shifts on the mounts it reconnects a bad earth somewhere...
