Does anyone know whether ANY Motorola StarTac 130 phone will work with the integrated kits fitted to XK/XJ/S-Type between 1998 and 2000?

Or was there something specifically different about the 'Jaguar' StarTac 130 phone (apart from the sticker and power-on message ).

Thanks

Ibelive the normal Star Tac phone will work but you will lose some functions , the Jaguar Star Tac is as you would expect a ripp off , i had to pay 500- odd pounds for an original Jaguar phone .

Snd i have to say it was probably the worst mobile phone i have ever owned i just left it in situ in the car as its fuctionality is hopeless, but it worked fine as a hands free when installed

Sorry mate i dont , a friend had an XKR some time ago and told me when i got mine that it could cause problems ,,but then maybe he was just told that by the nice people at Jaguar

I just bit the bullet and took an original phone , maybe if a friend has a star tac ,but then they are kind of an old phone now , and were crap even when they were new .

I have the Jaguar phone in my car installed from new on my 2000 XJ8. Reading the previous notes is of interest. The hand held phone itself is a complete confusion and stays in situ unless I have to programme a number in or I have a private call when my wife is sitting by my side. !!

However, the hands free is excellent, with voice activation etc and steering wheel control, which also takes a bit of time getting used to. So as a hands free car phone when used also from the dash board key pad the phone is excellent. Having said that, the hand held part is very versatile, but I think we are spoilt these days by are flashy Nokias in the top pocket.

Finally, you can also use as PAY as YOU Go sim card too. To get around the problem of two numbers i.e one in the car and one in the pocket, you can buy a phone number of Ebay for example for £0.99 called ‘Follow me’ phone numbers that start 07005 100 xxx. With this number you can pre-programmed up to 5 other numbers which will all ring at the same time until one is answered. (take care not leave one on answer phone) Confused! Let me know and I will try and help.

Thanks Chris. My query was related to which functions a NON Jaguar branded phone would still have available.

For example, if I plugged in a nornal StarTac 130 would it mute the stereo when receiving a call? Seeing as eBay prices are around £20 for a normal StarTac, and £200 for the Jaguar StarTac, that's quite a difference.

I called Jaguar customer services who told me that the Jaguar phones were different, however they would/could not say HOW they were different and which functions would stop working.

I think you answer is simply buy the ebay model for £20 and see if it does what you need. The jag one I have is very functional but a lot not necessary,. Although the mute is a must. If your ebay one fails you then just sell it on. A small price to pay if it works.

I am not certain what Jaguar are offering you for £200 – I think my company paid circa £600 all in as an optional extra.
