Hello
Just booked a couple of days in Rome for wedding anniversary next week.
I would like to get from airport to city center one way by taxi/private car to make the arrival least hassle .

Don't want to blow the budget however don't mind spending on this bit of the travel if it makes it easy on arrival.

Has anyone got a good recommendation for a company you used and it worked for you or experience.

Thanks

David

^^^^ What Tonker said ^^^^

As someone who lives in Italy, I try and avoid trains as much as I can!
Ring your hotel and see what they can recommend..

Cost us Euro 50 to get from the airport to the hotel we were booked into. The meter ran more than 50, but that's what we had agreed on beforehand.

This was not a prebooked one, just one we found in the taxi rank outside.

I've always found the Leonardo Express to be pretty good, you need to avoid the local trains but that one is non stop between the city and the airport, it's more expensive that the normal train (14 euro as opposed to 8 euro, I believe) so tends not to be too full of backpackers.

Of course time of day makes a huge difference, you can do airport to city in about 40 minutes (as opposed to 30 for the train), but at the wrong time it can take a lot longer. I switched to using the train when I nearly missed a plane due to spending 90 minutes in a taxi trying to get to the airport.

We used the TerraVision Coach which was very good expect we missed the first coach due to a big queue (but were first for the next one). Takes about 30 minutes to get you to the main station in Rome - frequent coaches. They are not all A Class coaches but it is only something like 12Euro return.

There are a appeared to be a few different companies doing the same so worth poking your head outside and seeing which has the shortest queue.

We did 2 different things - minibus transport and E Class transport a la Tonkers suggestion.

So we arrived at the airport, and walked to the train station. As I queued up, my missus got approached by a Minibus company. Essentially about 2/3 of the price of 2 singles in to the station, our man promised to get us there at least 10 minutes quicker.

He fulfilled his promise. By driving his Mercedes minibus like a fking lunatic.

Now, I'm a good passenger. But my man undertook, overtook, went through red lights, went the wrong way down a one way street, and sped. A lot. His only redeeming feature was that air of 'I do this all the time' which was comforting and slightly disconcerting. His way of pointing out key sights, like St Peters Basilica with both hands on the autostrada, was impressive and then terrifying as we nearly hit the central reservation.

But..we arrived in one piece. Well, some fellow travellers nerves were in pieces, but we got there earlier than we thought.

For the return, we booked Mr E-Class. He was the epitome of self control, and the journey was cosseting and enjoyable. His pointing out of places of interest was one handed and more casual, disappointingly.
